This fall, due to the abundant rains, a little creek I could normally step across to get to my blind suddenly became about 5 feet wide. I didn't want to put a bridge across (ended up doing it anyways), so I needed a way to cross the creek. Waders were impractical, so I used 2 of those heavy contractor garbage bags. I would slip them over my boots to cross the creek and take them off one the other side, leaving them under a deadfall for the return trip. They lasted the full 2 weeks. They did have a few pinholes on the bottom, but very little water seeped in, allowing me to stay nice and dry.

Sounds like some bang on improvisation to me! Well done. Especially while hunting from a blind getting wet on the way in is about as big of a discomfort factor as you can get imo.

What did you end up going with for a bridge? I've read some other threads about bridges on here and curious which route you went with.

I cut down a maple around 5-6" that was not doing too well, and a wild cherry tree that had top rot, and made a bridge from that. The wood won't last very long, but in 19 years of hunting there, this is the second fall I've had to find a way to cross. Before, I could actually jump across, but old age and all...

Oh my goodness !
Have we learned nothing from the Dutch ?

Hello ..... Mcfly .. I'm pretty sure you could have pole vaulted accros with all your hunting gear .:d
If you try that please include video results.

They used to make neos overshoes that were hip length waders that you wore over your boots. I have a set and they work well crossing rivers with aggressive soles

I have a set of chest waders at home, but it was too much trouble (to me, anyways) to take off my boots, put on waders, cross the 2 steps across the creek, and then do all that in reverse. This is a quick on and off.
