Remington 870 DM (detachable magazine)

This is hardly new and innovative, even from Remington. They already build a mag fed pump action 223 rifle that takes Remington shotgun buttstocks and AR 15 mags, the model 7615. This is just a 12g version of that.

That is one butt ugly shotgun. It looks like a cobbled together design rather than a thoughtful development.

Sorry not buying the sales pitch even with the pic. That thing looks about as useful as a screen door on a submarine.

When I see something like that being fired, it is usually someone at the range firing as quickly as they can at zombie targets. Then I have to explain to them that the range rules don't allow shot /buckshot to be used on our targets because of the damage they do to the frames and backboards.
 
Why are we even discussing this gun on this forum. I swear these are posted as click bait by people who giggle over our replies. Sadly, I sometimes take the bait.

It is funny because as I was reading Gatehouse's post this was the first thing that occurred to me as well. In each of those instances I would personally prefer a break-action double barrel as well! I think two chokes is even more versatile and doesn't sacrifice any of the ammo utility. Pop in, and lock up on whatever the situation dictates you use.

That said I don't mind seeing gun manufacturers come out with variations on whatever the latest fad is. No interest in ever owning one of these but it doesn't hurt anything to produce it and let market forces sort out what is worthy or not.

Yes and No. I had a new 7615 and that was a hell of a gun that I should have never sold especially for hunting coyotes
Somehow I just don't see the quality and purpose in this 870 that the old 7615 had

Mag fed is faster and easier to load/unload than a sxs, you don't need to handle individual shells and can offer you greater number of rounds loaded into your gun, faster.

If you were to carry a bear defense shotgun while hiking, a tube fed shotgun is superior because it weighs less, is more streamlined and is going to be carried with a full magazine anyway. If it's for a stationary gun, the mag fed is superior, especially with Canada's misguided laws.

Mag feds can be very practical and useful, depends on the individuals usage, just like so many other gun choices.
 
So in on this!

Not a Remington fanboy, but I have had great luck with my 870's! Remington needs a win and this could be it as long as they're reliable. From what I've heard from the beta testers they have their $H!T together on this one!

Thank-you Remington for actually making a product that people want! Now if only the 700 could step into the 21st century..
 
I'm not a tactical fan of anything but I think it would be great as a bear defence gun and for coyote hunting. Its sure quick to load. I carried my 870 18.5" all over northern Manitoba when i flew for the government. Its just a pain to load and unload quickly. I use it now to smoke coyotes.

You should see it with a 28" field barrel on it, the ultimate skeet shootin assault shotgun there is lol.

I do love this shotgun though, as it's just plain fun to shoot. It's not what I hunt grouse with, I have more practical shotguns for hunting. Honestly, it's just fun to have some variety in the safe. I've said before that's it's not for everyone, I bought it cheap and have had fun putting it together.

^this. No, they're not Wingmasters or Police models...but when treated as well as those 2 more expensive options, the 870 Expresses are very decent shotguns. There are 2 in our family, and neither has had any hiccups. I'm considering upgrading their extractors as I'm told the MIM ones in Expresses are crappy...but neither has failed. Not super high on the priority list. My personal 870 is a Police model with a Hogue pumper, but I also have a 28" VR/Remchoke barrel for it along with the shorter mag spring, plug, etc. 100% reliable gun, I really like the thing.

As for this new DM model~I say "why not?" :) I've never owned a detachable mag-fed shotgun, nor am I likely to EVER own one. However, hats off to Remington giving the tactical types their wet-dream 870! Not sure I fully believe the argument for DMs being great for loading various shell types to have on hand at a moment's notice..but to each their own. I guess the only tough sell will be for the 870 Express haters, because from what I can tell...it's an Express-grade gun with this upgrade basically. Smart move on Remington's part if you ask me, I hope they sell like hot-cakes. For those thinking it's junky-looking, I say cut Remington some slack. Want to trash ridiculous-looking, junky pump guns? Head on over to Mossberg's site. Haven't been in a while, but pretty sure there are no 870 "Chainsaw" models that compare, or muzzle brakes the size of a beer can.
 
If you want a gun that feeds any shell type, get a Benelli Nova.
You know how some cars are too ugly to live in my driveway, the 870 DM is too ugly to live in my gun cabinets.

I thought you got rid of that Pontiac #####k in the driveway ... you know the one with the faux wood paneling and reddy brown in color.
What do the neighbors say?
