I got my replacement type 81 out on Tuesday and though I only shot 360 rounds through it I was thoroughly impresses. No it's not a bench rest shooter but offhand ringing gongs while on the move before I've even adjusted the front sight is a good sign to me. This rifle is definitely a keeper and my only mod will be Russian red furniture refinish

i'm dying for the red furniture as well, still waiting on my order though. post pics if you get to it soon!

Alright well my folder showed up and I'm not totally convinced it's a keeper at this moment.

The folding stock is clearly twisted clockwise a few degrees.

One of my 3 (received mags) never activates the BHO. There is substantial mag wobble that causes another one of my 3 mags to only activate the BHO 50% of the time. One works as it should.

Looks like a slight bend upfront?

My rear sight seems to be slightly canted clockwise also. I haven't been able to get the hand guard off yet and have been trying for almost an hour. I can get it to come up half way but it seems like it binds on the slightly canted sight. TI also forgot my preorder bonus sling to top it all off.

My questions to you folder owners out there, do all your mags work with BHO flawlessly? Are your folding stocks in fact vertically perfect or are they canted like mine? Does your sight adjustment go to the 0 position without pulling the left knob outwards? (mine does not)

I really love the look and feel of this gun but these issues are killing it for me.

Hard to tell anything without seeing your rifle and mags, but strange that TWO mags are inoperable. Makes it look like maybe it's the gun and not a mag issue.

Can you look into the action and see what hte mag that works is doing better than the other 2? Maybe there is an issue with the followers coming up dar enough? Possibly some debris in the mags?

The BHO is exactly like an SKS, with how much wobble there is unless the mag is held back towards the operator it doesn't engage the block far enough for it to catch the bolt. The second one won't engage even when pulled back. I forgot to mention both the magazines that appear defective seem to have been used already as the followers are marked up from rounds being run through them. The one that works has no evidence of ever being used.
