What legitimate use is a gun light on a pistol in Canada?

No but I am not an American pretending to be under our rules.

The most mundane aspect of Canada is that rather than accepting our difference from the US, we waste our time trying to find comparisons.

But you seem to hate Americans and wish to distance yourself from them on gun issues. Maybe you think the lord trudeau will let you keep your 22lr PISTOL as long as you can give them a "legitimate" reason for you to have it.

Maybe you're right.

Hello. I'm new to firearms. Is there a legitimate reason to mount a gun light on a pistol in Canada, such as a SureFire for example. Thanks.

No, there is not a legitimate reason to mount a gun light on a pistol in Canada... but, who cares. I went through the hoops, I payed my dues. I earned the money to purchas a pistol with a rail on it so I'm going to mount a damn light on it if I want to!

You are out of line and are grasping at straws. Your anger is misdirected.

Since I'm a member I could legally and lawfully transport and use my pistols at the range at 3 am if I felt like it. And since it is very very dark there at that time, having a light would be very handy.
Hence, a completely legitimate reason to have one. All this thread has done is given me more ideas for stuff to put on my wish list. So thanks I guess.

...and you're jealous (LOL)

as far as lights on anything goes here are my top 3 reasons

1) I don't need a reason, legitimate or otherwise as long as I don't break the law, or affect anyone else's right to pursue their own interests.

2) Using a light on a pistol/rifle/shotgun is part of learning to fully use a pistol/rifle/shotgun under all conditions - both hands, all positions, stationary and moving at all ranges, day or night - part of developing mastery of the tool, that's why most of us shoot, to develop mastery of the tool.

3) Low light shooting is a very challenging discipline all to itself in which the firearm has different handling characteristics and the key indicators relied on in shooting are different from "normal" daylight shooting

Our club has several IDPA shoots a year with the range lights off. You have to shoot the match with a flashlight in your hand or a light on the gun.

I have tried all combinations and found that a gun mounted light (pistol, shotgun and rifle) plus a laser sight is the best.
