Actually... I am extremely interested in the details of this rifle... is it a semi-custom? I am totally unaware of any factory runs of MKII walnut/blued rifles in .450 BM???? Or are you referring to the Gunsite configuration?

You are correct. It's a glorified M 77 Mk II in my mind, but it is actually their Gunsite Scout rifle model 6837.

I've got five Kimber rifles now, and of those the 2 favorites are hands down both Custom Select Grades. They are in .300 WSM and 7 Rem.
The rifles bear more than a passing resemblance to Al Biesen's design's from the lines to the oil finished French walnut, to the straddle floor-plate. For a look at one of the most famous of those google Jack O'Connors #2 .270. That might be one of the most photographed rifles in history. If anything the Kimber's are better looking and definitely lighter. They also have that most elusive of attributes; they feel alive in my hands. That one is subjective but you know it when you feel it.
After a quick price check just now, I almost feel guilty getting mine for 1000 and 1200. Nah, scratch that I don't feel bad at all.

Thanks for the input. Do you own a Kimber Hunter with a drop mag? I am sort of curious to know if the wood stock from a Classic Select would accept a Hunter with the drop mag? I know this idea is not practical from a cost standpoint but it might mean that either a custom stock or Boyd's stock to fit the 8400 might work. Boyd's does not list the Kimber Hunter.
As I mentioned I am struggling with my like for quality wood stocks and my like for a drop mag. I recognize that drop mags are not everyone's favorite, but I like them more than the hinged floor plate which I have owned for years.
I am currently reading an old book of mine, Jack O'Conner's The Hunting Rifle. Some great pictures of him, his wife and a bunch of his rifles.

I don't own a Hunter, but the action is identical except for the bottom metal. If you bought a classic stock and the floor-plate, mag box, spring and follower you could switch back and forth that way. Whether the Hunter btm metal could be adapted to an existing classic stock I don't know but a wooden blind stock if one could be sourced could be. There seems to be a little confusion in terms, the only blind magazine Kimber is the Montana or perhaps the tacticas. The aftermarket could likely offer up something.
Here's something that may or may not be useful. Several years ago I was shooting at the Saskatoon range and happened to notice that the guy next to me had a Kimber converted to detachable magazine. This was long before the Hunter was offered. I don't remember specifics but do know that it has been done at least once.

The black pieces are spacers.... the gun comes with three of them so you can adjust the LOP..
