How was the 2017 moose season?

I find timing is the key factor. If you can hit the rut you're going to do well. My wife had a late draw for all of November and I spent a bunch of days out on foot and didn't see a thing. Lots of fresh tracks, just not at the same time as me.

Looks like some of us had some good success though.

I find that the most important factor is choosing an area with a good moose population. I wait years to draw, and I hunt in December, but I don't have to deal with muskeg or flies. So far, that method has resulted in five moose for three days of hunting, and we drove the truck to within 50 feet of each moose.

Awll me tree tagzs is marryinate'in.
Great success awn you folk.
Manja bene.

Merry Christmas folks.
Play safe.

Muskeg definitely wrecks a good hunting trip. Lol. Nothing is worse than spending all day trying to get your machine unstuck. What's worse is you can't walk more than a km up here without getting to something you can't cross. I think I'm going to put in for an early draw in the northeast section. Once your past all of the oil plants it turns into sand and trees everywhere.

Quite a rush to call in a Bull.

Zig Zag dude. :p

Truth be told, I get 90% of my moose in the north coast mountains close to tree line!

Lots of farmland moose here in Saskatchewan but you won't always catch them on farm land. I watched my bull with a smaller bull in a swamp for over half an hour, I wasn't going to shoot him in there, there was a 30ft drop between firm land and that swamp. I watched and waited until the large bull made it's way out, as soon as it came on hard packed soil and gave me a shot I gave him lead! Considering I had to gut/quarter/pack that thing out by myself I was glad I was patient enough. I also ask myself WTF was I thinking, that bull could've went the other way, deeper in the swamp.

I got an early open season Saskatchewan moose in the forest. Was a hard hunt went deep in the bush. Got an unexpected 6 inches of snow. Winches got a workout in the skeg patches haha I even broke mine. We saw a few moose. Two cows, but no calves with them and 2 bulls. One of which i was able to get a shot at. Did not see any other hunters where we were. Our group also went up in archery season for a few days and had some moose curious about the calls. Nothing came in where there was a shot opportunity. Was a great time and there was a big time suck factor as well. I really hope they do not get rid of that open moose season!
Me too. Really hope they don't get rid of it but it seems the moose numbers are down in the forest zones.

Okanagan and region 3-12 was crazy this year. In a 5 day span I counted around 8 big bulls, 3 immature and about 20+ cows. During the same time.....5 deer. Usually it’s the opposite. Not sure if it was all the smoke or what was going on. No luck for me this year.....good thing the freezer is still healthy from last year.

Me and the brother got a 13 pt bull the first day we went in, which was the 2nd day of the season,he dressed 434lbs, and it's tasty as hell.. :)

Just about had the 2018 moose opening day this morning on the way to work. Almost hit a cow and two calves on my morning commute
