250 savage

Rem 700 Classic /Win brass/Fed mag primer/Sierra 100gr SP and 41gr of Win 760..............this is over MAX in some books and not for Savage 99's or older .250's Pretty much 1 hole 3 shot groups on a good day.

Anyone still hunting with this classic caliber? What do you hunt and what bullet do you use?

I have taken 4 or 5 Mule Deer since I bought this Ruger 77 RSI a while back. All were shot with a 110 grain Accubond launched at ~2550 fps out of the short-barreled Ruger. Distances ranged from 25 yards out to about 300.

I had one long ago; stupidly traded it off. Shot the best buck I've ever seen with it, one shot with a factory Winchester Silvertip. Neat little kurz Mauser.

I would very much like to own one some day. My own preference would be to not buy it in a Savage 99 if possible but that is just a personal taste thing for me.

I have a cousin that has his dad's model 99 250.
I have only seen it a couple times and keep asking him if he is ready to sell it.

I also know a guy that uses a 99 250 as his truck gun, he won't sell it either.

I think you could do a lot worse that the 250.

Man, those rsi's are beautiful little rifles. I passed on a really nice .308 a while back. The 18.5" barrel was the deciding factor. Had it been 20", I would own it. 20" is my personal limit on barrel shortness because my hearing is bad enough lol.

Then you would really hate my M77 Compact in .308. It really "barks" with it's 16 1/2" barrel. LoL In any case I started wearing ear plugs while taking a shot while hunting. It soon becomes second habit to stuff them in as needed.

I wear earplugs when shooting as well. In my younger days, that wasn't always the case. 25 yrs in heavy construction hasn't done my ears any good either. In any case, I can tolerate 20" barrels but no shorter. Just my personal threshold I guess. I recall one range session where there was just me and two others. They were both shooting Remington model 600's in .308. That was quite the experience lol.

That bawtum knife I have a twin sister of.
Buddy bawt it for me when he was working in the area of a custom knife builder.
Forgit his name.
Seen'im at a few gun shows and he always promises to sharpen it if I get it to him.

That knife was made by Max Searls who was a local guide and knife-maker. Unfortunately Max lost his battle with cancer a while back and the hunting world is a bit poorer because of it.
