Sheep Rifle

I think Kuiu is more geared towards a guided hunt wear you shoot and the guid and packers do the real work
After all on a guided hunt you don't need a tent and you don't need to worry about packing food as these are part of the package and durability is not the issue

But on a DIY hunt your doing everything and need strong clothing that will last years vs two week guided hunt and Kuiu clothing
Why spend good money on over price Poor quality Kuiu gear
Still on the fence about there hunting pack I know thay are not in the same League as the Old trapper Nelson wich was just as light but a lot stronger pack frame without any of the BS
I use to be able to carry 250 LBS of rock to carve out of the mountains on Haida Gwaii through muskeg and blow downs with Old fashion trapper Nelson the new packs are crap built for tourists and not hunting or a working mans pack

I just picked up 10 boxes of the .30 cal 130 TTSX bullets to flatten out my .308...

I also just bought a Ruger KM77 MKII SS in 7mm WSM... finding brass proved challenging, so I ended up buying a case of Winchester Power Max Bonded 150 grain factory loads... the box claims 3200 fps with the 150's... sounds like good sheep/goat medicine...
I think you will like the 7mm wsm. Its an accurate cartridge. 140 gr accubonds and a full charge of h4831sc has been a good load for me. Recently I have been trying 120 gr ttsx. I was testing a load with them last week at 400 yds. I will get out again, maybe this weekend and I'll ramp up the powder charge. I should be able to get 3400+fps with the 120's.

I wound up picking up kimber adirondack but have HS position 7mm as a Second Choice not a ultralight rifle but not heavy either

Ultralight rifle are nice packing but having a 7lbs rifle is not the end ove the World

I have 6 or 7 hundred 7mm 154 Interbonds, so if I can move them along at 3000+ with good accuracy, that will be what I will use. I am also shooting 7X57 and 7X64...

My 7mm wsm is a kimber montana and I have a 270 win in a mountain ascent.

I would do the same, 154 gr is a good bullet. I read enough of your posts to know that you are a 7x57 fan, and for a good reason, its a great cartridge. I have a 284win and 7-08.

I love the 7X57... if I was a one rifle guy, that would be it... fortunately I'm not. Also shot many 7-08's and one beauty M77 .284 that I wish I had never sold... the 7 WSM is basically a "new version" .284, I suppose...

What year was that M77 .284. That would be a tough rifle to replace. I feel the same about the 284win as you do about the 7x57. The 284win was my first rifle. I have a M70 EW 7-08 that I'm thinking of getting rebarrelled to 284win.

AFAICR it was a mid-80's tang safety rifle... really nice wood and typical deep early-model bluing... standard barrel contour... carried with nice balance and was very accurate... a "284 fan" made me an offer that I apparently didn't refuse.

Sounds like a nice rifle. I knew ruger chambered it, but I've never seen one.

On my next non-guided goat/sheep hunt (non-guided because I live in BC and actually know my way around in the bush) I'm packing in my Grandfathers made in spring of 1958 Husqvarna 3000 that he had rechambered to 270Wby.

I had the 24" barreled action cerekoted satin black and a new Mcmillan stock cerekoted OD green installed a Leupold VX2 4-12X40mm Long Range reticle scope when sighted in @ 200 yards 1/2 way between the reticle and first dot is dead on @ 400 yards with my 140gr TSX @ 3200fps loads.

I'm not concerned about the weight of the rifle packing it due to its performance and because my grandfather packed it before me.

Because I also solo hunt if I wasn't packing in my 270 I'd probably have my 21" barreled Rem 700 LSS in 375RUM with me I would have it loaded with 260gr Accubonds @ 3020fps I'm confident with this combo on anything in BC out to 500 yards I'd also carry in a few 350gr TSX or Woodleighs @ 2450fps for up close and personal protection.

If I were to be looking at a new rifle it would be light and chambered in either 270 or 7mm Rem SAUM

When you said "old reliable", you had your answer. The .308 will do the job, so you simply need to be prepared to do your part, under those circumstances. You have plenty of time to research, select, and practice with "suitable" ammo, for the hunt. All the best, and please keep us posted :)

Update to this thread.

The fires in the Kooteneys this September closed down our hunting area. I had to make a last minute decision and ended up pushing off my hunt and booking a last minute trip to Kyrgyzstan to hunt mid Asian Ibex.

What an adventure. The .26 Nosler Christensen Arms rifle I ended up buying and the Swarovski Z5 BT worked well and I was able to shoot two nice old billy's.

Savage country, Kyrgyzstan. More wild than anything I have ever seen or encountered! Big mountains too!

My Ruger M77 .284 is a early 1968 production , dog leg bolt handle , 22" barrel w/o sights . A very early version of a factory light weight rifle . Bought it brand new back in 1970 , still have it and use it every season .
