krylon and other ghetto ar paintjob pic thread. Other platforms welcome too

I personally like the "battle worn" so cheap paintjob works for me! FDE color, some masking tape, job done!

And here's the latest of mine to come out of the booth.

Base was down with field drab, then a mix of khaki, light coyote, light green, dark green, woodland green, earth yellow and earth red. No specific pattern or technique, just said f**k it and went with what I figured would look alright. Should look nice once it starts to wear.

When I finally get around to finishing my 870 build, I look forward to posting my paintjob here. For now it's just an idea in my head. Hey, I have the Express model and the finish is a rust magnet, will Krylon on and Rustoleum actually make it more rust resistant?

I got an OD green archangel stock for my m14, but the handguard is brown. Looks fugly now. LOL
I'd like to get a new one in black or green, but couldn't find any in Canada.
What paint would be recommended to paint this handguard either black or green?

There is a brand of paint called Belton it's not really available at the big box stores as it's more of a specialty paint marketed more towards muralists and graffiti artists. But it is an amazing paint with a massive color spectrum and if you live in or near a large city you should be able to find some, its also inexpensive if i remember correctly (maybe $6 per can) If I ever did a ghetto paint job this would be the paint I would choose.

Krylon is the cheapo option but it tends to wear quickly, aervo seems to hold better but i personnally haven't tried it.

on another note, i recently got a tp9 and it is begging to get painted! Should i do it or not?

I have done a full strip, sanding and paint job of an ancient Model 12 with flat black engine block paint. Hardened in oven at 300 after prpoer application.
The finish was literally gone and rust had set in medium bad in some places even. I completely stripped every part, re did the pump and stock and then block paint on all stripped parts. I had to sand heavily and even use a dremel to remove some of the rust after stripping off the very last of the faded bluing.
It actually came out amazing. The finish is impenetrable. I can't chip it off with a framing nail even trying hard.

Rescued my wifes grandfathers old jungle carbine moose hunting rifle in similar fashion. This time I used caliper paint to try and match the parked/painted finish of the original. Will get some pics up. The rifle was rusted bad wrapped i a blanket and stored in a very damp leaky basement for near 18 years!
The outside of barrel had to be sanded heavily with 60 grit paper to get the rust out of the steel.
Likewise with the receiver.
I will say that VHT caliper paint is the single hardest toughest fackin' finish you can probably put on a gun if you do the prep work and cure properly. It doesn't look as nice as the engine block but good god is it on there!

I could not justify a thousand dollars in smith fees to have these rifles refinished so I took a chance and I'm more than pleased; Actually I'm amazed at how well they both turned out. Both the engine block and caliper paint are impervious to any solvent I've tested on them so far. One cheap, efficient and effective finish.
Will post pics shortly
