Type-81 pictures, range reports, and modifications thread

Thats one nifty looking vz you got there, wonder where it came from lol

Hahahaha I still have the Handguards and buttstock but they’re being stored atm. Awesome kit. Very strong and rugged.
That rifle has wood handguards and a folding AKFX stock on it now. When I picked it up yesterday that got me to thinking about making a block for the fixed stock version T81 so I could use stormwerkz and ace parts.

I just wonder if anybody who are good in 3D so can be design a template for AK magazine so we can 3D printed and modified the magazines easily to fit Type 81. It's kinda easy when you are only doing a few but I have like 20 of them to get it done, a modified template drop on AK magazines would be ideal. Thanks

Thanks in advance.

Yeah, guy goes on and on about how inaccurate his rifle is. At the time, I think he had posted he took it off before shooting the rifle, so not sure where he was going with that, and he has not been back to say how it now shoots.

To me, the extra muzzle weight helps with muzzle rise. I'm keeping it.

I never left and have posted several times but it gets lost under the all the hate I shot it beforehand and was getting the same results as others after taking it off it did get a bit better but not by much. I could have worded my sentence better I did not mean inaccurate I just ment it's not as good as I thought it could be I figured the GL may have affected it. Regardless if it helped or not I was taking it off because I did not like it on there extra weight for nothing

Can you post some detailed pics of how the overall rifle looks sleeveless? :)

What kind of improvement are we talking about? Anything measurable?

After having it in a vice there was a 1/4 inch differance 5 out of 6 groups so take from that what you wish .there is an improvement in balance that I like however when I get a folder I'm going to do the same thing to it

Can I see a pic please? I intend to make an AK clone out of one, so I am curious what i have to work with.
i was going to try to get an ak74 front sight and brake and put it on iv got ak74 mags to fit and function in it so i think it would be awesome

I’ve been thinking about doing the same thing with the front sight. So my concern with the front sight after some measuring and reading is that an AK front sight is 48 mm from center of barrel to center of hood. I don’t have one to check. It looks like from my measurements that the T81 front sight is roughly 38 mm. Half the T81 front hood is 5mm so if you put front sight all the way down you’d get back 3-4mm. Have to leave some of it sticking up. It looks like rear sight travels 2mm. That helps a little but still don’t think it would be close. Anyone got any ideas? Anyone have an AK front sight they could compare the T81 too? Cut a rear sight groove in the top bar? Lol

Speaking from experience with an AKM with underfolding stock, the only reason to install one would be for appearance; crappy stock from the standpoint of shooting.

Now, this is the kind of thread I wanted to read through .... I doubt I will pick up a type 81 myself, but I’m still very interested in how people that “own” this rifle, like it. All the other threads were inundated by haters. I’m interested in this rifle’s performance.

Anyone have the length and weight of the type 81?

My folding stock is 38 11/16" long and 7.643 lbs. (no mag)

My Fixed stock is 38 15/16" long and 7.606 lbs. (no mag)

So to sum up, the fixed is about 1/4" longer and a hair lighter than the folder.

For the folder the balance point is 1.06" behind the center point of the rifle.
