My cover wouldn't fit back on either. Hand filed a groove on the back and filed the front a bit to get it to fit. On the front hand guards I Varathaned the bare wood to make cleaning the residue off easier; shellac I don't think would last.
Lasered my rifle and got lucky, barrel and receiver straight. The last numbers have been photo shopped.

thank you for not using a dremel....Thk

Removed my wood furniture for refinishing. Just having a look at this vz58 undefolder. If I make a block that will work I think this will look ok. Triangle side folder won’t work without extensive modifications.
Has anyone with a folder removed it yet? I’d love to see pics of the receiver inside and out with stock removed.

where did that underfolder come from? ive not seen that one

Can anyone take pictures of how the stock mounts? I got a thing for plum AK furniture, and I'm just wondering what it would take to get some on a type 81.

I put a Magpul AK stock next to my T81 at the shop and figured it would be a pretty easy modification to get it mounted, if they had a stock I liked I would have bought one to try.

It's a square hole the back with 2 cross pins, looks like the angle at the rear of the receivers is slightly different but easy to remove material from the stock if needed.

I'd like to thank the haters for respecting my request to not clog up this thread with garbage. Much appreciated.

Keep the pics and mods coming guys, these are fun rifles and I'm looking forward to seeing what people do to them as the new wears off and inhibitions fade. I'm thinking a folding stock may be next for mine.
Has anyone removed the grenade launcher sleeve and fired their rifle without it yet? A pic without it?

Search the threads. I know I did see some pics from one owner that did remove the GL sleeve. I'd put a link if I could find it, but I know its been posted.

It came to me today how to mount stocks to the fixed stock version. I just need to have a block made that will slide in the receiver and thread two holes in the end that will work with the stormwerks folding adapters and ace stocks.
Haven’t taken my sleeve off yet but I’m looking for an AK front sight. Thinking about removing sleeve and stock front sight and installing AK sight 1” from end of barrel. Could even thread barrel and still go back to stock and nothing would show with the sleeve on.
I am concerned the ak sight will be too high. From the measurements I can find it’s quite a bit taller.

I believe this is what you are remembering and trying to find.

Yeah, guy goes on and on about how inaccurate his rifle is. At the time, I think he had posted he took it off before shooting the rifle, so not sure where he was going with that, and he has not been back to say how it now shoots.

To me, the extra muzzle weight helps with muzzle rise. I'm keeping it.
