Type-81 pictures, range reports, and modifications thread

could yo trim down the post idk if that would help

If you drop the sight until it’s flush with the bottom you’d gain 5mm but you’d have no sight so you’d have to leave it up a couple mm. I think you can gain 3mm there and the rear sight appears to travel 2 mm. So that would get you 5mm but the ak as near as I can find out is 10mm taller. Does anyone have an AK sight and T81 they could compare?

My folding stock is 38 11/16" long and 7.643 lbs. (no mag)

My Fixed stock is 38 15/16" long and 7.606 lbs. (no mag)

So to sum up, the fixed is about 1/4" longer and a hair lighter than the folder.

For the folder the balance point is 1.06" behind the center point of the rifle.

Thanks for the info.

Modified 2 Tapco AK mags to fit my Type 81. Created a video on how I did it for those who are interested, its a super easy task to perform on the polymer mags.

On the EE, 20 bucks each, Another bonus I didnt mention is they fit nice and snug in the magwell (they dont rattle like the type 81 mags).

I have a folder. When I first got it
The furniture was a nice light birch that didn’t match the dark Bakelite folder. But after a few 100 rounds, the carbon is darkening the fore grip and gas tube furniture. It is ageing nicely.

FYI to anyone wanting to mod poly AK mags to fit their T81. I am finding that Magpuls are much quicker and easier to fit than Fab Defense mags are. The Fab Defense mags seem much bigger and beefier and need more material removed. It takes more time because I take a bit off, test fit, take some more off etc until it fits. Don't want to take too much off and get a sloppy fit.

My folder has a very slight cant and I could care less. A lot of AR15 telescopes butts have a cant too...

The rest of my gun is flawless and way better than I expected :D

There's a lot of mods and a few pics in this thread but I'd like to see more targets and range reports myself. I'm considering getting one but the bends and other negativities are kind of off turning. More range reports people, please.

While I’m waiting for stain to come for my wood furniture I was thinking about how I could mount another style stock to my rifle. Really for no reason other than I like doing this kind of stuff. So here’s what I’ve come up with a block that fits inside the receiver. Just need to thread the holes. This is a test run. I’m probably going to make another that fits a little more flush to back of receiver and hit it with some black paint.
It will work with the stormwerkz folder and/or the AKFX stock

That looks cool! I personally prefer the original folder tho. Gotta get around to attaching my Bakelite grip as well :/ It looks good on yours

Can you alter the angle a little? The current orientation will see the charging handle impact the butt pad if shooting folded, from what this looks like (?).

Yeah it’s going to be close. Might just barely nick the rubber butt pad. The stock sits off from the receiver a bit. Really don’t want to lower or angle it anymore it would be too low. It’s same height as fixed stock where it is in pic. I took the angle out when I made the adapter so the stock would be straight.

in my quest to modify ak mags just for the hell of it i did an ak74 mag and it worked! fits and feeds fine still needs to be cleaned up but works good

Interesting, I didn't even know you could use 7.62x39 rounds in the 5.45 mags.
