Type-81 pictures, range reports, and modifications thread

I created a un intentionally LONG video regarding my initial impressions of my Type 81. For those of u out there who are contemplating buying one for yourself, hope this video helps!

FYI , If your watching this on your phones built in speakers, u may notice a segment has the narration missing... using another form of listening like head phones or ear buds should solve this. IDK why this glitch occurred during the upload d:h:

I got a video up showing how one can mount Bakelite AK grips to their Type 81 SA !

Definitely a major improvement over the stock chu wood grip, It feels a lot more sturdy and robust.

OK. soooo I was sitting in the shop, staring at Que Son, and decided wat the hey, i'll attempt to drive out the pin on the grenade launcher... AND IT CAME OUT :O with surprisingly little effort! just the barrel on a wood bench supported over one of those brownwells pin punch block thingys. Like 4 hits with a light hammer. I continued to drive off the sleeve by clamping it in the soft jaws of the vise, and then hammering on the bayo lug with a wood block as a punch.

YES I MEASURED THE BARREL**** AND YES ITS STILL OVER 18.7"... the grenade launchers weighs .3lbs on a fish scale, and the barrels OD measures 14.44mm

Not really sure what looks better :/ the grenade launcher on, or off.

My plan is to take her to the range Saturday, shoot for accuracy and see if theres any improvement. If there is then obviously ill leave it off. But if there isnt any change in accuracy, i'll have the hard decision of whether or not to put it back on.... I wouldnt mind threading the barrel for 14x1mm so I could add a muzzle brake. We'll see down the road I guess.

Looks good, I think I will have to do the same, hope I can drift my pin out as easy lol

My 81 has chewed it's way through close to a crate now and hasn't missed a beat.

Would it be possible to move the front sight closer to the end of the barrel?

If the front sight and gas block can function separately, and u had the barrel drilled for pins.... Then I'd say yes. But u wouldn't have much room on the muzzle for threads. The reason being, the muzzle has a section about 1.4" in length where the barrel is .569" OD (the thickness required for the front sight) then there's a 2.7" section where the barrel is .561".... So that .008" may be way to small resulting in a sloppy fit.

1st range day with type 81 folder

1st day with my new Type 81 folder.
Iron sights. The top bar has got to go for me , too distracting.
75 yrds 5 shot groups.
1st group bottom left
2nd group bottom right
3rd top right
Last got her dialed in , not bad bullseye grouping

Sorry about pic size , tech challenged lol.............

All in all I'm pretty happy with this gun

Maybe you could circle the individual groups for us? There seems to be more than just 3 or 4 groups there. If those 5 just below the bullseye are a group that's not bad at all.

I'm sorry I can't circle them I would be guessing.
I should have done it while shooting. The reason for more than 20 rds is I only had 1 target with me . Once I dialed her in I closed the folder and let her rip . She got pretty hot and erratic .

Next time out more targets and a marker.

Center shots were 1 5rd group that I can say for sure......

Bottom line to me is if your looking for a precision shooter this rifle isn't it but it's a hell of alot of fun to shoot.
Which is a okay by me ;)
