Largest caliber you've shot a coyote with?

35 Whelan at 30 yds. A doe crossed a trail I was on. I stepped to one side and crouched under a fir thinking that maybe a buck would be following her. A couple minutes later the fool coyote steps out with his nose to the ground trailing the doe. When I slipped the safety off he stopped and looked at me... too late.

Yes , I agree with Patricksbb391 , how many have you killed ? Last winter was my best so far with 23 kills. So far this winter I have killed 10 .
This is my 5 th. winter of serious coyote shooting with 84 kills . Before that maybe 2 per year ? ,,,,,.

Hundreds. I used to set 100 called coyotes a year as the goal, but spent more time at it then. Barely do half of that now and I probably let more coyotes of opportunity go than I shoot now.

Biggest gun is a valid and interesting question. It hints at what people are using when they find coyotes as incidentals, and what lengths they will go to use something that would otherwise be gathering dust. Its a nice change from the normal what's the best coyote gun thread, (22/250 52 grain Berger Varmint match)

lol.....got to ask....was there much of it left!

Most soft nose bullets in that calibre is not really designed for the velocity of the A&M, so shooting softs from hornady, makes the bullets really kinda explode. Cause of that, i only shoot barnes triple shock X in my gun. So damage with barnes isnt that bad. Was still fairly substantial, but about what a 300 does to them with a 180. Was not a long shot either. That close a lot of high velocity guns would make them explode worse.

While out moose hunting, shot a coyote at about 175 yards with a .375 H&H loaded with 300 gr X. Was quartering towards. Hit it in the shoulder, with exit behind off shoulder. Instant kill, and no mess.

338 Win Mag with 225 grain Hornady loaded to the nuts.
He just sat there looking at me with that #### sure smile . . .
He had teeth coming out the back of his head!
