Powder Prices

General shun in Windsor terrible. Last time I asked H4895 was $62 plus tax.......

That's why we can't give in to these places that charge $55-$62 for powder. We have to support the Higginson, lawry's, Hummasons Londero's etc of the world. We can get groups together to cut transport costs so we can support those that make it affordable for us to reload and shoot.

Sure, if their after-tax/after-ship price is better, I'd buy there. In the meantime, I'll buy at Henry's, X-reload, western metal, etc... as their powder are about 1$ more per pound but they don't charge a 34987348653$ hazmat fee.

General Gun wants $89 for Blackhorn 209! I contacted the manufacturer and they were blow away and agreed that was an "outrageous price". They can't ship up here unless the distributor orders at least a few thousand pounds too. You can thank our BS trade agreements for part of that. I'm sure the distributor cost is crazy cheap so how do we as consumers stop this gouging?

You got me thinking about how NAFTA will affect US made ball powders coming into Canada.... so far it doesn’t sound like talks are going well.

1-Buy something else;
2-Become an importer and sell it 88$.

If the price of ball powder gets too high, maybe GD will finally start manufacturing some, and we'll get canadian made ball powder.

$34.95 per pound for Tightgroup around here and that is regular price...plenty of times goes on sale sometimes under $30.00 lb...Cabelas puts on sale once to twice a year if you life close enough for pick up. Honestly even $35.00 lb is high....looking to buy only at sale prices these days.

Yeah but $35 bucks isn't straight up gouging, it's an honest markup for something that's not super high volume in most stores. Charging what the OP paid is disgusting. You can get Titegroup for around $30 bucks online, but sometimes you pay shipping, sometimes it's free.

I find with powders like this it's best to wait for them to go on sale and then scoop up like 16lbs, even if you're running a progressive press, you can load hundreds of rounds a pound. I use like 1-2 pounds a month of Unique, but I'm going to switch over to Titegroup because I bought so much of it last time it was cheap.

I do the same thing. I prefer certain powders but I'm too cheap for brand loyalty. Just before Wholesale Sports announced it was going out of business they were advertising WSF and WST for $26/lb. Since I'm in Ontario I made a point of visiting Bass Pro often to buy all their stock using the price match policy. That lasted 4 visits before Wholesale finally shutdown their website. Too bad it took so long for Bass Pro to restock, I could have bought a lifetime supply of powder if they were faster. Needless to say I have many pounds of WSF and WST waiting in the wings, the fact that they're two of my favourite powers is a bonus.

Did they ##### and moan because you were matching a "sale" price?

They sure did. They called me "one of those guys" (out loud to my face) and I verified that I was definitely "one of those guys" who likes to save money and not spend it foolishly so I wouldn't have to work at Bass Pro for the rest of my life. Funny, they didn't seem to like that response.

Hehehe, I expected they would, but sometimes when the profit margin is so high they don't care. Or if the employee is a young millenial who doesn't give a hoot because he knows he won't work at bass pro the rest of his life.

Wow, I feel sorry for you. Titegroup is one of the cheapest powders aside from commercial grade. $25-$35 Tops! Shop around, B.S.S, Western metal, FOC, afew others. Deals on titegroup can be found.

Bought some 3 years ago for around $27.00 so the prices seem to be stable for it at least Titegroup

Don't let on all their powders are $1 more This is BS. H-4831is appx $17 more, H-1000 is $14.50 more, Varget is appx $13.00 more. This is just the difference on some powders per/lb at Higginson. Lawry and Hummasons is even more of a difference.

Just got 2lbs of CFE Pistol for $29/lb from xreload and $10 shipping.
Best buy is the rebranded IMR from CanAm...$125/5lbs, free shipping over $200.
They have 700x/800x/4198/4064 but it does sell out fast when they get stock.

I like the Canada Ammo deal, you cant go wrong with it. I grabbed some a while ago for myself.

Great response, that sure gave them something to think about.
