Westrifle still has decent ones for $260, and you get to see a photo of the actual rifle you're buying.
Good deal.. at least you have spare partsView attachment 149113
Ordered the top one from cabellas Boxing Day $200 sale, 1951 bbq refurb, repairs all over the stock, chunks missing out of stock, rust on bolt and charging handle, mismatch mag, $234 shipped
bottom was the wanstalls, $221 shipped, blued 1954, chrome bore and barrel, mis match stock and mag, heavy sanded down stock, no refurb marks on gun but stock suggests otherwise
going to keep one original and play with the wanstalls one, purchased a 5/30 metal promag, and the vented cheese grater handguard (if I can get that pin out!)
sucks some got blued some got crap, hope you get better luck with the sks lottery

Im happy with the ones I got.
remember these were $209 not a premium hand select! In 10 years we will look back and kick ourselves for not buying more of them
I ordered two sks rifles from the recent Wanstalls sale and just got them opened up last night
I had a good laugh when I checked out rifle#1.
The stock looked like it was sanded with a belt sander with 40 grit, no shellac on it at all. Upper hand guard is laminate wood and the main stock isn't
Not one matching number on the thing although the condition of the metal parts is good, didn't see any rust
Cleaning rod was bent at a 30 degree angle, not sure how they got it in there lol
Rifle #2 looks better, all matching minus mag, painted metal, shellac on stock was crudely applied though and looks terrible but I think some tru oil will fix it up plus work on rifle #1s stock
Anybody get any gems from the sale or are they all just rack grade blasters similar to what I got?
Can't really complain what do you get for 209 bucks.
That first rifle cracks me up it was definitely slapped together from whatever bits were at hand it will be interesting to see how it shoots

I was very happy with mine. 1957 Lettered one. Not refurbed, barely any cosmo, few dings in it but its all original.

I've seen, and owned, original letter series guns with both. Especially 57 often are hard wood. 56 and 58 are most commonly laminate.!957 Russian SKS should have a laminated stock, not solid wood.
Yes although a lot of the 56-58 are laminate, they are reportedly using the left over parts during those years, I have seen both laminate and birch stocks on them! I understand that laminate are supposed to be stronger, but I really like the look of the birch stocks, especially with the dark red look!
Is the bottom (wanstalls one) an izzy by chance?View attachment 149113

No prob, I saw one last year picking through our CTC batch, 140 rifles, I took five out of the bunch, there were probably 15 more blued and lots of really nice Parkerized ones, there was an izzy with the sanded stock but the metal had a beautiful blueing and was near perfect, I almost bought it but already had 5 picked out, was getting them for $180.! Wish I bought all the blued ones now! Not cause I don't like the Parkerized ones, 90% of them have good parkerizing, just most folks like blued, so for the same price I pick blued!Tula, don’t know how I forgot to add that. Sorry
