Have lots of 7.62x39 ammo, need a few semi auto rifles, what to get? Besides SKS!

So before you say SKS, I am looking for a few decent semiauto rifles for some fun shooting with the kids.
I current have only one rifle in that caliber (vz58) it's actually a not bad gun, but obviously dated, and not so cheap anymore.
I want about 3 guns all the same (so no one whines) I want to spend only about $1k each (at most) would be nice to have something a little more modern, reliable is a must. Chrome lined is preferred, magazines are quite nice. And somewhat lefty friendly.

I jumped on the wanstalls $200 sks deal, only to call them later and find the "computer" lost my order and I won't be getting any, so I will be getting a refund. So now I need to blast out 10 cases of non-corrosive.

too bad the vz58 jumped in price so much. And for what guys want on the EE, I might as well buy new, if I go that route..

Any other good suggestions?

Sounds like an SKS to me. :)

also SKS.

SKS? :)

Kidding aside, I don't think there's anything else that qualifies in your price range. For $1200 all in you could have a nice three-SKS set.

It won't be less than $1K, but an AR with a PSA x39 upper works great and offers much superior ergos and operation to the vz/CZ rifles, not to mention 10 round mags.

That new rifle offered by wolverine is supposed to be available, down the road, in x39. Give it a go? Buy the .223 wylde version, then you're a barrel, bolt and mags away from a new one? I've been offered vz58's on trade for around $1,000. Used ones are out there.

After a bit of reading tonight, i will be watching, it sure has promise. But hopefully they come out with the x39 version sooner rather than later. Does have potential to be a winner.
Might pick up a .223 version to try.

Theammosource has x39 uppers for 399 and pretty sure they still have lowers in the 300ish...

X39 ar isn't out of reach with your budget.

This is why 7.62x39 was relatively cheap for a while but is rising due to increased demand for the calibre with dwindling surplus supply. Its gone up +/- $100 since last year in many places per 1000rds of non-con and similar for cases of surplus...

Norinco M305-A in 7.62x39
XCR in 7.62x39
Mini 30
Various AR Uppers (restricted issue)
Westrifle has a Semi
T81

in your pricepoint you could pick up for ~$3000 a Mini 30 (~1200), T81(~999) and Norinco M305-A (~699).

I recommend a Bolt action CZ527 in 7.62x39 as a serious consideration as something different and it is a fantastic firearm.
