Rate my BCL 102

Do you think you need the 12.5 or 13.5 length handguard to cover that gas block? The arfx butt stock really seems like it's worth a try. I was going to grab one from brownells. Where did you get yours?

I don't really know. It may not be a bad idea to protect the gas block. That's what I was thinking.

I got mine from CTCS in Canada.

I'm not sure why some 102 owners are swapping everything out. I made a few mods but can shoot sub MOA and very happy with the rifle which has run perfectly for 400 rounds.
And this is my do it all...including hunting regardless of what some bush wackers say, like it's too cold to hold on to....hahahahaha

That looks good. What optic?

So funny when guys crap all over the "stock" BCL and then follow it up with -
a) I didn't shoot it in its stock config
b) I haven't shot it at all yet
c) I haven't got my gun yet

Well, don't break my balls because I haven't had time to shoot it.

I know NEA quality control. And that was proven by what I found when taking the thing apart.

Also, I wanted:

A better bbl
A better handguard
A better gas block
A better bolt
A better charging handle
A better stock

Etc.

You can upgrade vehicles, sound systems, etc.

Why not this rifle?

I bought it as a stripped receiver. They hadn't actually started selling those yet.

Ha ha, ur uhh yea..
I doubt you are a real hunter. This is soo not a "go to" hunting rifle, clearly you have never tried your rifle in cold temps like -20degC or lower. What, do you shoot with big beaver lined mitts on? Not to mention the action would most likely not even cycle, and any hint of frost or snow on that action you might as well wave buh bye to your game!
Seriously, quit fooling yourself these are primary hunting rifles. Sub moa.. doubt it.

But it is nice to dream isn't it!?

I never really understood the mass modification mall ninja principle? Other then the fact just to be different. A few grams here and there of weight savings maybe?
If you just want a gun to play around with and modify, this is a decent NR gun for that, but a reliable, accurate, hunter it is not.

Maybe I am a Debbie downer, but from my experience, I have seen enough guys modify everything from corvettes to snowmobiles to sports equipment, and nearly all of those guys are sitting on the sidelines watching the guys with factory units run circles around them all day long.

If you wanted everything better, why didn't you just buy a better gun?

I guess you should enlighten us with what a “real hunter” is. And then when you’re done doing that, why don’t you explain how you have arrived at the conclusion that the action would most likely not even cycle at -20degC or lower...and how any hint of frost or snow on the action would be a problem. You really have no idea what you are talking about.

I run my Troy PAR coyote hunting. Was -28 last time. Didn’t really have any trouble at all, you don’t really have to hold any of the metal parts, a foregrip or a rail cover and your good to go. Action cycles normally, inspite of frost and snow. I have no idea why you couldn’t run a 102? My MH ran fine in the cold as well. And I didn’t use big beaver mitts, just winter gloves.

I gotta agree with Runningfool.

I've hunted in Saskatchewan and Alberta, for many many years. I've used anything from .350 RM, 9.3x62, .308, .30-06, .30-30, .303 and more.

I hunt where you park, and then put on 6-12 kms hiking in unforgiving territory, in all sorts of weather, from +10 to -30.

I've been up to my teatsin snow and ice. I've been in places where I thought I'd actually die before I made it out.

I live and breathe adversity as a way of life and look forward to every challenge I can.

Putting someone in a box is silly.

So yes. I hunt. And I'm not a mall ninja.

Amen!

Nice. O.K. well that is exactly what I'm "gunning" for. Right? Right? Get It? Gunning?

Ahhhhahahahahahahaha.....

I’m really happy with the optic. Clear enough and strong enough to range out to 400 which is more than enough for me. Mines set up for predator hunting and having the ability to change from 10-400 quickly is what I like. Plus follow up for multiple targets is great.

I rarely make a shot beyond 300 yards. I just don't feel confident enough where I hunt to do that. It sounds perfect to me.

I dont think anyone has tried to make the argument that the 102 or any semi-auto rifle would be more inherently simple, accurate or better suited in general for a pure hunting rifle. The idea is to have a rifle that may not be the best at anything but is well suited and capable of everything. The kill zone on big game is much larger than some sub-moa sweet spot so really anybody that cares about pure accuracy is doing so putting holes in paper. Thanks for your wisdom on the subject of cold weather, beaver mitts, mall ninja's, corvettes and everything else anybody has modified and are now pouting on the "sidelines".

I was just saying the skeletonized pistol grip which is made of aluminum would be cold, aluminum handguards and stuff are fine as long as you've got something plastic to hold onto. I'd love to hunt with one tbh.

I've shot a DPMS gen1 LR308 in -30 no problem. It sucked, but the firearm functioned just fine. Use G96 and it will run fine. Use some other oils etc and they will thicken up which could cause problems. But that's a lube issue not a firearm function. Something the Germans learned the hard way in WWII against the Russians who added kerosene to their gun oil so it would work in -50.

Personally i feel like these rifles look just right out of the box, the more people bolt on to these the less im attracted to them.
For scopes id have to agree, too large for caliber/action/barrel lenght. Not like this is a precision bolter with a 24'' barrel.

haha962, when i hear peeps comment like this locally on job sites, they make me want to start hunting. I'd make sure i'd hunt with the blackest of black rifles allowed, i am sure it would still do better than lot's of these traditional hunting guns.
