Shadow vs. Shadow 2

yes, some Shadow 2s experienced cracks on the right side, behind the slidestop. In some cases the entire piece broke free. New 2s now shipping have a relieved area on the top of the inner locking block area.

I found the aluminum grips to small ,I could put my finger in the guard, up to my second knuckle :)

The original black rubber grips are much thicker and fits my hand perfect.

So ,ya grips make a difference.
There was a couple sets for sale on the EE. (Aluminum).

^^^^^ I agree I purchased the Canadian grips in aluminum but went back to the originals, they seem to be much more comfortable for me
 
....and the VZ grips are in the middle of the thickness range. I use the VZ, combined with the 85 Combat trigger. Perfect combo for my hands.
 
LOK grips also make thin grips for the CZ Shadow 1 and 2. s I'm still shopping Shadows I don't know how they are for them but I have a set of his thin grips for my Beretta and they are beautiful and reasonable price, he will also do custom work with logos, etc. Very fast shipping to Canada.
 
I had a chance to try a Shadow 2 at my range a couple of week ago, guy shooting next to noticed I was shooting my SP-01 and asked me if I wanted to try his new Shadow 2. Of course I jumped at the chance wanting too see how much better the 2 was...
Shot a mag in each, first 2 shots each, then 3 shots from each and finally A quick fire of the remaining 5. I honestly didn't see much difference, not enough to justify the price difference.
 
I've owned a pair of Shadow 2's as well as my original Shadow that I used for a few seasons of IPSC. I like the feel of the Shadow 2 better in my hand and the checkering is much better for grip but the reality for me is my results never changed based on the gun in fact my best result last summer of all my matches was when I returned to the original Shadow after selling both of my 2's. The biggest difference to me was the trigger takeup or pre-travel in SA was much better on the 2's and similar to if you changed the disconnector and hammer out on the original Shadow. If I had planned to stay in Production division I must definitely would have kept the 2's but since I had planned to switch to Standard they were worth too much to have sitting unused. AS far as the way the OP presented the original question I could not tell someone they needed a 2 over the original for anything other than personal preference.

The Shadowmate has a better slide to frame fit. It cycles much smoother. Better trigger, better sights and the barrell is hand fitted to the slide.

The Shadowmates are hand fitted, but for the most part the 2s are to the level of the Shadowmates due to the better machining and QC on them.
I've got 3 Shadows, 3 Shadowmates and 3 Shadow 2s (well okay I sold one of the 2s), the 2s I have are much much nicer than any of the Shadowmates for overall finishing.

as for what's better, the 2 is a huge improvement on the Shadow. Just from a design standpoint it's been completely redone in CAD/CAM, the machines used to produce the frame, slide and barrels are all brand new and state of the art.
 
Just a side note here , I understand the new Shadow 2 is too heavy for IDPA, so if that’s your thing you’ll want to stick with the ( slightly ) lighter models. I’ll be trying out a new to me Shadow 1 for the first time tomorrow. Having owned and tried 5 or 6 striker fired “ Tupperware” handguns last year it will be interesting to see what a full metal da/sa feels and shoots like.

Compared to my Shadow 1, my Shadow 2 is marginally better in fit and finish, shoots the same (for me) and has a higher and sligthly leaner grip. Personally, I feel that the Shadow 2 is a mild derivative of the Shadow 1: think along the lines of a mid life refresh on cars between major generation changes. There is not much to seperate the perfomance of the two really unless ones starts getting nitpicky and I would really just get the one that fits your hand better and you feel good about.
 
I wish I had read this thread before I bought my shadow 2. I never got a chance to try an sp o1 but from reading reviews decided on the shadow 2 with the intention of getting into ipsc. still waiting to get into a bb course and not sure if I will anytime soon. hands down best 9mm I have ever shot tho... that's for sure... I will just never know about the shadow ones performance tho now that I have a 2...
