Buy a BAR or better yet a bolt gun. Tone down the caliber to say .243 or lighter...... if having trouble with the bigger cals.
Is he a good shot? Pretty steady?
Maybe a KeyMod XCR-L in .223? Pretty light, low recoil and accurate enough for minute of Yote at 1-200yds esp with a scope.
Talk about first post thread derail?!! What are you? The law? He asked for rifle advice pertaining to species, not when and if he had your permission to shoot them. You need to get over yourself!!
BTW OP I run a newer mini-14. Works great out to 200 yards with 55 gr jhp on yotes. Recoil is almost non-existent. I can’t see why with a little heavier bullet like a 62 - 70 gr it wouldn’t flatten a wolf at those ranges?
Didn't you just derail the derailment

Are you the internet police?
Because there's something magic about keymod?

I think you done good! I was going to suggest the Mini14, but when the idea of deer was introduced that swung my thinking in the same direction as yours. Good choice!
Really, those two guns were about the only ones mentioned here which seemed to fully match the criteria you laid out. Most of the other suggestions sounded like one gun nut making a suggestion to another gun nut; nothing wrong with that, but it didn't sound like your dad was a gun nut, just a guy who wants to shoot some yotes (and maybe deer).
Browning bar in .243,great rifle. Enjoy.
Yes my father is far from being a gun nut. I always like hearing input from other members as it sometimes gives you an idea that you may not of thought of. He will be getting the new gun tomorrow when I and the family are heading to camp for family day weekend. Hope he likes it.
Seems to be a smooth functioning rifle so far. Very little recoil as well. The trigger is something to be desired, but I’m use to Sako crisp rifle triggers. Thanks for the compliment!
