what is mild or heavy load?
Using 280gr bullets and IMR4895:
- 38gr = 1800 fps, sooty neck and shoulder
- 42gr = 1950 fps slight soot on neck
- 47gr = 2170 fps - best accuracy. Not hot but as high as I go in Husqvarna M46 & Swedish M96 action.
-quickload estimates the 47gr load to be just under 40K so it`s very mild.
I load much warmer in the FN98 rifle, quite easy to get past 2400 fps and still be well under 30-06 pressure level.

If I were to buy a gun in this caliber and had no data, I would probably start cautiously with known data from a "similar" NA cartridge, such as .358 Winchester.

I have loaded for the 9.3X57 for almost 40 years. Tried several different powders, and the most efficient loads for me have been Ball C2 with magnum primers.
It is no trick at all to get well over 2300 fps with 285 gr bullets, longest case life, no loose primer pockets, and good accuracy.

He has done a lot of load development and experimenting, including loading .375 jacketed bullets that have been sized down to .366 for the '57. He was living in BC when he posted in 2007, and may still be there.
It will take a while to read all his posts, but it will be time very well spent. I would have been well-pleased to have had his information when I started loading for this round in the early 80s.

One thing I have always done is neck 8X57 brass up to 40, almost straight, and then resize the case a bit until the bolt will just barely close on an the empty resized case. Lock the die at that position and resize all the brass. IIRC, Darryl S does the same.
Had been doing that for several years when resizing 30-06 brass to 9.3X62, and it works equally well to get perfect case fit in every 9.3X57 chamber.
