Hey guys. I finally convinced my wife to let me get an AR 15 (she wants to piss off the anti gun crowed) I got a budget of under $1000. Just curious why you fine gents might recommend as something i can have fun with right out of the box. But also can upgrade as I go. I'm not much into long range shooting just range fun and aesthetics. But reliability is always a top priority with a moderate degree of accuracy out to say hundred yards. Thanks so much in advance guys and i look forward to hearing from you.

Smith and Wesson M&P 15 Sport II.

Theyre $700 and will do everything you want them to do. Nice barrels on them too.

Forget the Norinco garbage

I was in your boat a few months ago. S&W M&P 15, end of list. Best bang for your buck. Throw some magpul SL furniture on there and a decent optic and she will do everything you ask of it and smile while doing it. Get it while the prices are down or regret it later

Scour the ee. You will find a colt 6920 or something else pop up once in a while around the 1k mark. Try and get it for a bit less...

A&W is good or if you want 14,5" barrel these look good too https://www.canadaammo.com/product/detail/anderson-ar-15-rifle-223-5-56-14-5-barrel/

I had great luck with the 14.5” Norinco. For accuracy and reliability I believe it is as good as anything else...but I was sad that it wasn’t a Colt so I sold it.

when i wanted to try the AR game i picked up a Norc, but that was back when there wasnt much else in the cheap AR line up here.
the S&W is the best for the price ive seen this last year, hard to pass that up.
personally ive been dabbling in the NEA waters last couple months and im super impressed with them.

but for $650 you seriously cant pass up the S&W.

I got a m&p sport 2, 13.5" freefloat handguard, lowpro gasblock and a BCM gunfighter stock for almosy 1k even. I am still waiting on the transfer but I was in a similar boat as you budget and mindset wise. At 1k for an AR you have more money for optics, training and ammo. Unless you already have those 3 things the higher end ones just arnt worth it as an AR noob. Or at least that was my reasoning.

You might want to confer with the AR gurus around here......I have been told that you can build a sub MOA AR for less than $1k with all new parts.
