Not a good comparison. The Pinto exploded when hit from the back. Kinda like the P320.

As for m&p pistols... I've never had any ftf get or other issues with them. Had several, only sold cause as ergonomic as they are I always felt like I was always re setting my grip. Will get the mp2 which seems like the issue will be dealt with

There were 2 versions of the original version FYI. The difference was in the trigger mechanisms. Can't remember which part exactly, but it's in the frame, not in the slide (if I remember correctly). You will start to encounter this problem if you ever decide to do a complete trigger overhaul and upgrade to an Apex trigger. The Apex trigger kit will only work on the 2nd Gen M&P 1.0. If you have the First Gen M&P 1.0, you will have to first upgrade the trigger mechanism (again I can't remember which part, but it's a small part). The kicker here is - and the major reason I don't even bother with M&Ps anymore - that one small $15 part can only be bought from S&W direct. I've looked everywhere, even US sites, and even the US sites stopped stocking them because S&W decided that one small part can only be sold to licensed gunsmiths. So, here in Canuckistan, I was told by S&W to ship my M&P to BC to a licensed S&W warranty centre, and they will do the work. Granted this was 3 - 3.5 years ago. So maybe things have changed now, and maybe Apex has included that part in their kits. I don't know.
Another gripe I have about the M&P, in order to remove the firing pin block, the rear sight has to be removed.
Clearly this pistol was designed by lawyers (you will see if you ever try to disassemble one) instead of engineers. I am more than happy now with my Glocks, CZ, and 1911s.I have the first version of the first version, the sear lifting pin (under the sear) is the part that you're talking about. The reason they only sell that part to gunsmiths is that to make proper use of it, a milling machine must be used to enlarge the hole that the part sits in. The hole it sits in must be made offset, very fractionally according to Randy, to the original hole, you can't just enlarge it. You can however buy the complete trigger block, with the enlarged pin and fit it yourself, if you see the need. Compared to a 1911, with it's file to fit 100 year old design, the M&P is a piece of cake to work on, a monkey with some sandpaper can do a first class trigger job. As noted, 56,000 rounds on a 1st release Gen 1 pistol, with no issues - I stopped updating parts when I realized that it wasn't broken, which was about 10,000 rounds in. Now, I replace mag springs and followers as needed, and recoil springs every 10-20,000 as necessary. After putting in an Apex sear, and polishing the bits that rub, the trigger is stable with a clean 2 stage feel and a 3 lb break. Oh yeah, and I can hit stuff with it, when I do my part.
Then M&P is as good as the shooter. It is sold most widely in the range kit. With a holster. Folks complain of accuracy. They are drawing from the holster. Operator error. Reliability? I have a Glock 17. They both are reliable. The Glock and the M&P get the job done. Reliability? My 1911 gets the job done. Guns are tuned and maintained and by that I do not mean cleaning after every range trip. Not by a long shot.

I refrained from entering this thread until I had a chance to use my new to me EE acquired Gen 1 M&P with the Apex trigger kit in a IDPA match this past weekend.
I was worried about people here posting about the accuracy factor. I had tried it just to sight it in and I did find the groups were a little bigger than my stock Glocks.
Other than the super light trigger which caused a shot to go off as I was pushing on target and a light primer strike, the gun performed fantastically! First time using this gun and I came in 4th. I think the M&P has potential as a IDPA gun and I’ll explore it further! I like the reset and firmer trigger on my Glocks better but I think I can get used to the Apex, with practice.

I'll be honest, it was handling yours a few weeks ago that made me want to get one of my own. I found the trigger pretty nice, but I will admit that my experience (or rather, lack thereof) would limit me in determining what that exactly means... mine should be here next Monday...

You shot that gun very well at the match! I think with a little more practice, you could probably shoot the M&P better than the Glock. At the distances in an IDPA match, I don't see factory accuracy as an issue at all, and any accuracy issues people report would relate to their fundamentals as applied to the gun. Some guns are more forgiving than others, and other cases are simply not being used to a particular trigger, etc.

I am torn between my loyalty to my faithful Glocks and this new upstart! I’m thinking I will rest my G19 for a while, use the M&P for IDPA but stick with my G22 for 2-3 Gun. The main reason being the FO sights. They make it easier for old eyes to pick up sight picture on game day!
And congrats on winning the match on your first attempt! And no, I’ll still not buy a CZ!!

I haven't measured but I think the Glock is about 5.5lbs stock although mine might have lighten and smoothed out a bit from wear and use. The Smith is closer to 2.5lbs.
