I picked up a Colt Canada MRR 11.5" a few months ago and cannot decide on an optic. Iron, Red Dot, scope???? What do you think would be the best option for me that won't break the bank.

I'm not really looking to shoot over 200 yards.

Thank you.

Had a SpecterDR on mine, and it was a good match - heavy optic, but light gun, so it made for a good package. I now have a TA11 ACOG on mine, which again is a bit heavy, but the light gun makes up for it. I personally would suggest a TA33 ACOG for the kind of shooting you're describing. Small, light, and a bit of magnification. Also excellent eye relief, and you can pick up a used recent production one for around $1k

Sigh... I envy you guys that always say out to 200 yds isn't a problem with a red dot. With my astigmatism making the dot an oblong blob, I'm lucky if I can use one out to 50 yds.

To the OP, I second CobraGT's suggestion of an AOCG TA33. It is small, light and has excellent eye relief. You will have to define "break the bank" though as that is different for everyone.

Meprolight M21, Similar in price to an Aimpoint or EOTech's cheaper models new. They are super durable, no Battery since they have Fiber Optic and Tritium for light source (Last 10yrs and Mepro will Replace Vial for you). I have not had a chance to see the either of the Trijicon MRO models but I am sure they are top knotch. Any Aimpoint is top shelf and you wont be dissapointed. If you are not wanting to spend as much for a new one I would honestly get a good used one from the EE over getting a Vortex or Cheaper Model. I have seen them go from 4-600 for the PRO or Comp models give or take. Another option that would cost less than the EOTech or Aimpoint new is a C-More, The Railway Model comes in around 400ish New.
Another Route would be a 1-4x, You could get a Trijicon TR-24 which would go great on that rifle. High Quality glass and simple. You can find them for a good price in the EE and seem to go for slightly less than an ACOG. That would give you the ability to stretch your range out a bit if you do go out past 200-300. I ended up going with a 1-6x instead of the EOTech I had and prefer it. I am building a second rifle and plan on putting a Fixed 3-4x ACOG or Elcan OS4X or Elcan C79 (if tritium replacement works out) and get to compare. Above posts have also mentioned good brands as well.

Trijicon Accupoint 1-4 is the best, but pricey. I'd recommend a primary arms 1-4 or 1-6 with an ACSS reticle (talk to Solely Outdoors-a site sponsor, they're the exclusive distributor for Canada as far as I know) if you're looking to keep it cheap.

If you go red dot, aimpoint is the best, but a holosun 503G with the ACSS reticle would be pretty cool with a magnifier.

If you go Eotech MAKE SURE IT'S 2017 OR LATER PRODUCTION.

Thank you for all of the help guys. I'll check out the above listed ones and see what I like that is within my budget.

Usually I over think things and get caught up comparing items endlessly. So, the above mention suggestions are very helpful.

You're fine to 200 without magnification. Any decent red dot would do: Aimpoint, EoTech would be my first choice. Vortex SPARC AR would be next choice.

People always forget when they talk about engagement distance, what size target are you talking about?

Sure you can probably hit a deer at 400 yards with a red dot. But good luck trying to hit a 4" plate.

This is true. I default to shooting Figure 11s!

PS: CTCS was the original source for Primary Arms scopes in Canada. I saw that another dealer is now selling them too.

If I had to be cost effective I would look for an Aimpoint Pro off of the EE. Will last you forever and is quality kit. Maybe even a Trijicon MRO if you can find one on the cheap. Sub $500.00 with mount.

The MRR is my daily shooter and because of my astigmatism I run a Trijicon TA44. It broke the bank but after trying almost every compact red dot out there this works the best for me by far.

Ah yes, a $3,000 scope that "won't break the bank" to shoot up to 200 yards. Some classy suggestions here.

Hint: Ignore them.

My initial suggestion for the post was an Aimpoint - not something that's amiss on a nearly $2500 rifle. "Break the Bank" is as definitive a remark as "inappropriate" is - in other words it isn't. Break the bank to me, might not be the same as break the bank to you - as we all know, the Elcan is well made and costs appropriately. I'd hate to see how you react to really expensive optics.

I picked up a Vortex Spitfire x3 for my recent AR build. It was 500 bucks and has their lifetime warrenty. I should get some trigger time with it this week but from the reviews I read it should do a great job for the price.
