Don't need Dlask, although it would be a bonus. You can order a new MacGowan, Shilen, Bartlien, etc. etc. etc. Order a custom 16' barrel and have a gunsmith install. Can be done, but it would be pricey
 
Now that they have their quality back I'd like to see remlin (maybe they once again deserve the name 'marlin') make a 1895 variant with a 16" bbl.
I don't like the tube loading henrys and the chiappas are nothing but overpriced junk.
The workmanship of the new remlin 'rep' firearms I've checked out over the summer is on par if not better (machining) than the old 'jm' marlins.
Gone are the 'shadow' 2-d checkering, the misaligned sights, the pizz poor w/m fitting where the wood was 1/4" proud of the metal, the 'uncycleable' actions full of machining burrs and metal grindings and more issues that plagued the early post remington takeover remlins.

With side gate loading rifles you push the first round in with your thumb only as far as being flush with the receiver. Use each subsequent round to push the previous one in. There should be no fingers involved, it's all done with the thumb. Only the very last
round gets fully pushed in with your thumb.
 
I have an SDT, and a friend has the STP. The grip on the stock is the difference. I will say that they are okay to shoot will mild loads, but I get a headache after 10-12 full power handloads. Accuracy is very good despite the recoil.
