Dlask is showing out of stock in the Black 16.5 but is showing stock in the silver ones and also black and silver in the 16.5 556 design..... im not sure what that means

It's KIDD barrels for me from here on out.
I really want a new Dlask receiver, & a stainless steel XB-5 linear compensator for next time.
Those are the ULW barrels, much lighter than the steel bulls, but with an aluminum shroud surrounding a steel barrel core, it's not likely to ever shoot better than the true 20" steel bull barrels. The ULW is a compromise of weight vs. ultimate accuracy.
Mine is fluted with the 556 design, I posted a picture of it in the "Decided I want a 10/22" thread. Still haven't shot it, but I'm curious to see how much accuracy will suffer as a result of the design.

I just find it super hard to believe you haven't shot it yet! I'm like a kid in the candy store when I get a new rifle.

This is what I'm thinking I will do - barrel and receiver as first buy, and let them put it together. After that everything else just drops in. I have 3 10/22s I can pilfer bolts etc from. I really want the extended charging handle on them all. That little finger one ruger sends works. That's all I can say about it.

thats how i did both my Dlask builds.
had them put the receiver and barrel together so i was sure it was super tight then put the rest on myself and polished the parts how i wanted them till i got the performance i wanted.
Josef Dlask is a strong proponent of tight fitting barrel/receiver and after talking to him im drinking that cool-aid too now.

In all honesty, the KIDD 762 design looks better, at least to my eyes.
Between work and home life, and other outdoor stuff on weekends now that the weather is getting better, there just isn't a lot of extra time these days
I'd like to build something more accurate than my 1990's 10/22 carbine.
I was thinking of getting a barreled action from dlask and using the guts from my current gun - I've got some VQ parts in the trigger group that make it more than acceptable, IMO, and unless there is some secret sauce to the bolts I can assume that a bolt is a bolt?
I need to decide on a stock, however. I want something with a longer LoP than most out there. Does anyone make a stock that isn't sized for children???
Looking at the Magpul hunter, figuring I'll have to use every spacer, or maybe a Boyds AT One. Magpul is cheaper and has something of a pistol grip, but is butt ugly. I've seen some AR-ish ones, but they seem to be more style than substance, from reviews I've read regarding quality and rigidity.

A bolt is not a bolt. The QC from the Ruger company is not always up to snuff and they like to do things that shore up the bottom line , rolled pins instead of a proper pin. Spend a few extra dollars and buy quality bolt with spring guide and spring

My DAR-22, No. 67 of 100 of their 7075 receivers. Went bells and whistles save for the trigger which is a Timney pack from Jerry at Mystic.
It's a beauty - how does it do at 50 yards - got any target pics?
+1 - Ruger bolts can have a lot of issues, and aren't the best design. A proper bolt will be both square at the face and true, the bolt face recess will be properly sized (affects headspace) the extractor cut will be properly aligned, and the firing pin will be properly sized, sides polished and pinned to stop it from rising. Sadly, any given Ruger bolt may have none of those features. Dlask's polished bolt is cheap, and very good.
It is fun to assemble these things, but consider a full build. It might only cost a couple hundred more. But you are almost guaranteed a great shooter. My brother ran a stock bolt in a dlask barreled action and it didn’t run consistently. It would be like putting a civic engine in a Ferrari. But have fun with it. It probably won’t be your last build from them
All right. I figured 1990's Ruger would be ok, but if not, then it's one more part to leave with the old rifle. Pretty much leaves the trigger group lol

And it won’t be long till you replace the trigger group. I went from a Ruger to a Timney to a Volquartsen, boy do you notice the difference.
I really like the Magpul hunter. The grip is just the right angle, the length of pull is adjustable and there are various different comb height inserts:
The Boyds Pro Varmint is also a very comfortable stock and can be custom ordered to fit with different length of pull and other options:

I got lucky with my Ruger 10/22 with Kidd Heavy barrel. The Ruger bolt assembly, & extractor work excellent. If it had been problematic, I would have looked into swapping it out. In the future on a full custom rifle I will buy a bolt assembly.

Anything else I should be paying attention to with the build? I have a Magpul X22 here - however I here there are some people who have issues with wobbles with them, slight, but I do think that is unwelcome - have to wait to see how it all fits.
