support for eddie Maurice's self defense case Please read...

Wife saw the story on Global after I had mentioned the details. She was pissed. We are donating. Maybe this is the thing that will start turning the tide. Many of the folks at work feel the same way.

Hi all, for those of you who didnt sign up for updates, or sent EMTs instead of donating to the fundrazr account:
I received this email update today.

"March 12, 3:04 PM

First off, I want to thank everyone from the bottom of my heart for the support you have shown towards Eddie (Edouard) Maurice; the Maurices are truly grateful. I also want to let everyone know that this fundraiser has been created with the consent of the Maurice's. The family has asked me to express their gratitude as well and thanks to everyone for their support with the message:

“Eddie and I are overwhelmed with all of the support everyone has given us. We appreciate knowing the community is behind us during this difficult journey. It means so much knowing we are not going through this alone.”

There has been a lot of questions asked because of this campaign and the media stories that have been posted. With any situation of this nature, there is a lot of sensitive information that can only be discussed between those involved and their counsel; so let’s start off with what can be talked about.

Eddie Maurice got married in August of 2012 to his lovely wife Jessica. They currently have two beautiful children and reside on some land outside of Okotoks. Eddie is a skilled machinist and often fixes and builds parts for local farmers as well as local commercial operations. Eddie is also no stranger to farming and agriculture; in the spring he can usually be found in local calving pens and as the spring moves on he is usually found helping neighbors brand.

I have known Eddie and his wife for a number of years. They are both kind hearted people that will help whoever they can in any way possible. Eddie is a little quiet at first, but once you get to know him better he is a wealth of knowledge and always happy to share his experience with anyone who asks. To me, Eddie and his family are the “salt of the earth”, the kind of people (and neighbors) that the world is lucky to have.

Spare time at the Maurices is spent in a number of ways, but all of them include their young children. From knowing the Maurice's I can say that their children are their life; they are the true meaning of family. This family is always on the go doing something, some of their favorite pasts times are going to the park, camping, and almost anything to do with the outdoors as a family.

It absolutely turns my stomach to think about what this family is now going through. They have put so much time and dedication into their lives and now it is all in turmoil.

I hope that we can all bind together as a community of Foothills, a community of Alberta, a community of Canada and a community of good, hardworking, honest people to stand behind one of our own.

I hope and pray for this family; all we can do is stand with them and beside them as they go through this unfortunate event."

The man needs his day in court, and he doesn't deserve to have his family and life destroyed, in the process of trying to get it.

That's why I'm donating to the family. I don't agree with shooting someone over an insurance premium, either; but I think our system is so out-of-balance right now, that there is no chance of this man (or the perpetrators) actually getting justice.

Wife and I are just getting out of the 'toddler phase'. Taxes are almost caught up, credit's coming along and the bills are getting paid. I'm making pretty good coin and she's almost fully up and back to work. Life is stabilizing and right now we're a benefit to our community and society.....and something like this happening to my family, would just about destroy us, and would have me out on the street, ironically probably to end up the same ruined junkie committing these loser-style petty thefts.

I can't go down like that (and brother, society does not want me playing for the bad team. Trust me :l), and it's only going to stop, when we decide to stop it.

I was on the fence but not anymore.
Who do I need to get in touch with to get the EMT info?

Cheers,

just a heads up....an EMT goes 100% straight to them...all of the funds. Its great to donate in any way, but I'm not sure what fundrazr takes for a "administrative fee"....(check out post #1 for alternate donation info)

So if you want to do an EMT ...the simple way to make it easy is to put the answer inside the question...for example:

Question: "what color is my red truck" and register the answer as "red"

The support on this thread is outstanding :) Makes me feel real good seeing the firearms community come together like this....and another shout out to IRG's......THEY ARE AWESOME for taking this thread on.

I will definitely buy my next purchase thru them :)

They take their fee as a seperate charge. For 50 bucks they added a 4 dollar charge on top so none of it comes out of your donation which is nice.

Its great to see so many ppl come together in support..... IRG's as I said before is "top notch" for taking up this thread......shows they really care about people....not just their money and patronage :)

I bought 3 or 4 guns from IRG in the last year. I love the idea of importing more guns into Canada. It's like you get something you want, and you get to add to the total number of guns here. Win-win.

But, yes... glad they pushed this into the light. Wonder how much the total is with EMTs (that's what I used), TD deposits and the social page?

it wouldn't surprise me if it was a good number of support......a lot of older rural folks might be more apt to do a direct deposit to the account....and I think they have a ton of rural support from around here, as for anybody living far away from police response....it could be anybody in his shoes...and I think a lot of folks can identify with that

EMT sent.
Will definitely be looking to see what IRG has for sale.

Note, If you bank with CIBC, you’ll have a hard time with “What colours my red truck?”
Even bumping up character count, Seems answer can’t be in question.

I agree.
Reading articles on WebMD doesn't make you a doctor.
Reading a portion of a statute or the Regs thereto does not make you a lawyer or mean you understand the law and its practice.
There are many reasons why you need 8 or 9 yrs of schooling/training before you can be called to the bar.

$23,830 as of this morning. This is what's important.

You make a very valid point but why not ask a lawyer? Someone who does this for a living? At my gun club there are several barristers and they all seem to agree that this bloke is in for it. ( a few feel jail time is what he will get, others feel at best he will get a fine and some sort of probation BUT all agree that he will not leave this matter unscathed.) He is guilty the only question is what will his punishment be.
The money should be given to the family because this bloke is the wrong.

Sure, go ahead, ask a lawyer. I suggest an experienced criminal lawyer. Just don't confuse some of the ramblings in this thread with actual legal analysis...sort of like you determining his guilt. I'm certain that many people were equally confident of Gerald Stanley's guilt too. And BTW, the barristers you have talked to are not saying anything that we don't already know: the cards are stacked against Eddie Maurice. The Crown, an arm of the government, will go after him with all they've got. I presume that Mr. Maurice will opt to be tried by a jury.

The point I was making is that the amateur quasi-legal arguments happening here do not deserve to be given any weight, and they detract from the ultimate point: raising money for his legal defense.
Make a donation and support this guy and his family or don't.

$25,035 as of this morning.
The donations are slowing down, so I'll be kicking in a few more $bucks.

Isn't the rule that if you're going to shoot someone on your property you'd better make sure they can't tell their side of the story. Not advocating that, just was what I was always told....

All,

Hello, my name is Kyle Sinclair-Smith and I am the individual that setup the online fundraiser through Fundrazr.

I was notified by one of your forum members that the link was posted on here. I wanted to come on and personally thank you for all your efforts. This is a very unfortunate incident that will forever change this families life not matter what the outcome is.
I have recently posted an update giving everyone some context to their life as well as a message that was passed along from the Maurice family.

I myself grew up on a ranch, so not only are they my friends but the realization that this could have been one of my own family members really hits home for me.

Again, thank you for your support; the Maurice family appreciates your words of encouragement, the shares of the page, and your donations.

Have a great day.

Regards,

Kyle Sinclair-Smith
