Something in 7X32 would work
For serious bench shooting at 50, the more magnification you can get the better. A used T36 or B&L 36X would fit the bill close to the $400 budget.

Looking at shooting just 50 meters paper benchrest, no hunting. Would like to keep it under $400 without buying junk, what fits the criteria guys?
With a CZ452 Varmint you should be able to compete at your local club at some level.
By listing your location someone may be of help taking you to a local range and introducing you to what others are using.
There are some clubs shooting BR50 under ARA rules or some variation.
