The T97 Thread!

I once had a T97. I really liked the gun..again built like a tank. After about 100rds, I started to get major FTF's. Every other round would get pushed in. Tried every kind of mag. 50% failure rate. I really wanted to like the rifle but it just wasnt working. I eventually sold it to someone willing to fix the issues but I always still wanted one. After much searching, I noticed the new improvements on the Gen2 T97. I could live with the awkward safety, mag release was improved but still not the greatest...but mainly the feedramps caught my eye. I decided to give it another chance. Now after some 400rds, I can say this rifle is working as suppose to. Six different mags, LAR mags, Gen3 pmags, all fed without issue. Not one hiccup. 400rds is not much but compared to my Gen1, its quite the improvement. Im slowly building trust, always waiting for that bullet pushed in fail to feed but so far has not happened. Rapid, slow deliberate...it just works. If I was to complain about anything, it would be the sights. Small sight radius and extremely eye straining. Im finding it very hard to focus. Good thing its got the flat top upper and a scope is in order. As for accuracy, it absolutely hates Norc 556....literally shotgun patterns. AE and Rem bulk is decent. Avg groupings are 2-3". Will have to try with optics as I put a lot of the blame on the poor sights.

It's definitely ammo sensitive. I'm trying different types with wildly different results. I can get 2.5" groups with Aguila 62gr, 3.5" with Fed M193, and 8+" with Federal M855 at 100m using the Irons. I also get big point of impact shifts with different ammo types. The Aguila and the M193 will hit pretty much in the same spot, but the M855 will hit way left. PPU .223 gave me 1.5" groups but hits so for low and to the right I can't adjust the sights nearly enough to zero the rifle. MFS 55gr JHP even more so, a 4" group but going low and right so much it's not even on paper.

I'm running up a round count now, at about 1000 rounds without cleaning and only a handful of malfunctions that I'm pretty sure were cause by the magazines. I can say it likes to be greased, like an AK. That makes that linear hammer snap down instantly which really helps, I think. The serial number is a 15xx so it's also the most recent of the Gen1s. They are definitely built better, and the Gen 2 my friend has is built even better than mine.

I can get variances from 1.5" with 75gr match to like 6 inches with 55gr Norinco. That being said the average is still what is expected from a service rifle setup.

I've had 100% reliability with mags that fit properly from both of mine. It sure is a tank, I wonder if I'll ever have to use gas setting 2.

I'm at around 4000 through one, around 2000 through the other.

Post a pic if you can.

Here you go.

Just picked up a gen2 and have shot close to 400 rounds without any malfunctions. The sparc AR I mounted on the rail seems to hold 0 well also .
