The T97 Thread!

I do mags. I've found the worst thing is actually loose mags, modifying the rifle increases the chance of that.

Beowulf mags are listed as 2 rounds of Beowulf in the FRT and over that is prohibited in the mind of the RCMP. Use at your own risk.

Anyone find anything that works to touch up scratches on the receiver of the 97s ? Cold bluing doesn’t work and I just picked up birchwood aluminum black for like AR receivers and that didn’t work either ? Cheers

Anyone have any hunting pics with the T97? I just joined the club with a gen one that I got in a trade, I'm definitely pretty excited to spend way to much money on this thing lol

I don't think you can legally hunt much with a .223; except for small game. I know you can't hunt deer or moose.

In Ontario as long as it's centerfire it's legal. Federal makes a pretty fantastic load specifically designed for deer, my old mini14 didn't shoot well enough for me to comfortably use it for deer however I hve killed a few with my rem700 22-250.

Back to the T97,

What's the little square indented area behind the magwell on the bottom of the receiver? Does it have a purpose in the design?

I'm pretty sure it's weight reduction. There's no reason for that bit to be solid aluminum, so it's not. It could also be a vestige of the paddle mag release on the 95s, it would be in that recess.

Just got a new second gen out this week. 20###### serial number. Shoots 3-4MOA at worst... not sure if the flyers are me, ammo, wind, or the gun (pick your excuse or maybe just the gun). 80% inside 2MOA off a caldwell bench rest. using American Eagle .223 55 grain. Gong Hits at 300 Meters all day. 1-4X Bushnell AR223 scope with mildot drop dots for 200-600 yards. Leupold QRW rings.

no FTF or FTE in 250 rounds

LAR mags were extremely tight new. put the rifle in a bench vice upside down and worked the mags in and out 10-20 times each. got to have real strong grip the first couple tries. I was trying to see if it would scratch and show me new metal where I needed to file. The mags seem to yield to fit the receiver as you work them in and out. So as it got easier, I decided not to file anything. Now its at the point where they need a solid yank to come out, but nothing more than that. I would anticipate long term it will not be a problem.

The factory mag just drops out nicely. would be nice to get the LAR's to that point, I'll update in 6-12 months if I remember.

If you take a very tiny bit of material off the sides of the spine, everything works great.

Only time ever choked mine up was deliberate abuse, when I put two hundred rounds through mine very rapidly.
Must have sounded like a Palestinian wedding reception.

Heated up enough to have a steel casing expand and stick to the chamber.
Nothing a good smack on the cocking handle didn't solve.
I am impressed the exctractor was strong enough to take it.

Could that pocket behind the mag housing be for the original design mags.
Maybe the space where the lever release mechanism went for the rock and lock type mags in 5.8mm???

If Tula Ammo ever gets in more 62gr fmj, I am in for a lot.
That shot really well through both my 97s.

So I bought a aftermarket left hand charging handle.. getting it in totally messed up the original polymer ambi charger then didn’t line up and shredded original rivet. Of course I thought it was goodcandcwent to range today and it smashed off receiver and chunked upper plastic like wtf ? Is there anyway to source original charger assembly ? Pretty pissed as it ruined original gun

And before you asked I hit it in with a rubber mallet so it’s there Specs ? Not impressed as I can never now revert it to factory as to how ####ed the ambi original is
