where would you suggest they place their bolt?

I personally just dislike the shortened cocking piece and how the bolt handle sits around it rather than in front of the shroud as the Mauser does. I'm sure that there are many good reasons Savage designed the action this way, but looks truncated to me and isn't pleasing to my eye. YMMV, though.

Sorry but the CZ 557 does not have a mauser type controlled round feed action. The CZ 550 does, but the CZ 557 is a relatively new push feed model from CZ. There seem to be very few in Canada so far, so I doubt anyone here can really comment on how good they are.

I don't disagree with you. I am not a savage fan. The bolt handle is actually placed the same as the rest. The lack of a bolt shroud makes it "look" out of place. The handle is positioned just ahead of the trigger. In any case, I would never buy one.

Browning hasn't had a decent bolt rifle since the old FN guns.

CZ makes some very nice bolt rifles. That isn't one of them.

The Tikka will not disappoint. Accuracy, crisp trigger, light weight; no downsides, really, unless you consider appearance.

The Savage will garner a lot of scorn, but it's probably the best value per dollar spent among these choices.

The whichever the browning or the tikka had the nicest figured wood, I would take. Likely all of them are accurate.
