So here's a question. I have a 22" criterion barrel that I'm thinking of cutting to 18.5" and threading for a flash suppressor. I was thinking a vortex would be a good choice, but looking at the offerings, I think all the .308" M14-compatible vortexes are meant to direct-connect to a 22" USGI barrel's castle nut threads, or alternately, to a 18" Crazy Horse barrel, which also has USGI splines and castle nut threads.
So if I shorten a regular M14 barrel, I'm assuming I can't use the Direct Connect vortex FS?
So does anyone know, does the Direct Connect FS make use of the flash suppressor splines at the muzzle, or does it just use the threads?
Is there a non-direct connect Vortex FS that can be put on an M14 barrel that is just threaded at the muzzle without splines?
