The ZIS-22 halftracks were solid Soviet prime movers.

The ZIS-41 brought a little more to the table... a 57mm AT gun.

I dunno how many tanks were actually knocked out by a zis-41. But I suspect that 57mm high velocity gun had shortcoming in late war German armor like the mk4, panther and tiger variants.

Also, no way would I want to be that up high, out in the open with just a gun mantle shield taking shots at enemy armor. Armor is usually companies by infantry support and those zis vehicles look like a bazooka, grenade, Molotov, or maybe even AP rifle fire could take out the whole gun crew.

I remember seeing a pic of a British Officer in the field with his men carrying what appeared to be a cut down Ross sporter. I've gone through an hour looking for it but can't find it. Still, I did find a bunch of great Ross in service pics.

This means that some of the "sporter" Ross rifles might actually be legitimate ex-service rifles that were cut down in service.

I wonder why they did it. Weight?

Some of us have been telling folks that for years. They would need to have CEF markings, with full length barrels though.

Trenches were often only 100 or 200 yds. apart, accurate shooting was easy with open sights, especially with a Ross.

Fore-ends were cut back to make it easier to stick the barrel through holes in the sand bags and steel shooting plates.

Correct me if I am wrong, but is this soldier wearing a US style ammo pouches around his waist

No, P37 belt with non-infantry ammo pouches. If I recall correctly these pouches were issued to rifle carriers who did not require to carry a lot of ammo or mortar bombs. Andd he is wearing demin battle dress which was used for fatigue duties and training where you didn't want to mess up your battle dress.
