Like the title says, what new pistols do people have that they really enjoy?
I very much enjoy both of mine that I purchased recently (afterall, why not buy what I want now rather than wait until the dumbasses slap on a bunch of new bans and regulations?).
The Sig Sauer P250 is my first gun, though because I forgot to inform the seller after I changed my address, both it and the Tokarev had their transfer approved at the same time, so technically it's a tie, or whatever... The important bits are that I picked it up at the local shooting range / shop, Nova Tactical, for $450. It was used but you wouldn't really know it to look at it, and it fits my palm like a glove. So far I've put almost 200 rounds through it (30 today, as I finished off a box that I had shared with a friend) and have begun improvement as others have pointed out some of the flaws in my grip and stance. I originally started out right-handed (my off-hand, but dominant eye) shooting low and to the left in fairly consistent groups, and then since have now found that my left hand is the superior, if only for the marginally better fine control. After getting past some of the basic stuff, like don't take my finger off the trigger between each shot, and that the off-hand should do about 60-70% of the work of bracing, I've found my aim slowly but surely improving. My groups are still looser with the left, but definitely more on target.
Now the Tokarev is something I'd been thinking about for a long time. The more I look at it the more I like it, since there's just something about it that has a lot of character for an old surplus pistol, from the "funny" way the russians decided to stamp two dates on it, to the almost worn away star on the trigger, and the simple pleasures of the aesthetics and the fact that all the serial numbers seem to match. I took it to the range today for the first time and have a feeling this will quickly become my most favorite for a while. It had a nice smooth trigger and I was able to compensate for the muzzle climb after the first several shots thanks to my previous experience with my Sig, and overall found the recoil to be less than with my 9mm. I picked up it at the Halifax Army Navy Store (listed in the Dealer Network) for $250, along with some boxes of Sellier & Bellot. So ironically it may be the cheap little surplus pistol that convinces me to get into reloading, rather than something in .45 ACP.
So has anyone else picked up anything that they just can't wait to take to the range again (and again, and again...)?
