Hi Guyz,

I'm good at carpentry work but not so quite experienced with guns. But I love to do DIY stuff.
I was looking for traditional Blackpowder rifle under $1000, but couldn't get any new or good shape gun anywhere in that budget in Canada. So finally I'm deciding to buy the following Kit from Traditions Firearms US.
https://www.traditionsfirearms.com/p...ber-percussion

Importing it through Borderview International will cost me around $99 + 5% + shipping = approx $180.

Need your suggestions about it. Will it be a good deal and decision? anyone has experience dealing with Borderview?

Check out IRUNGUNS one of the site sponsors as they can bring in stuff from various manufacturers such as Traditions. Not sure if they would have access to what you want but if they do if will cost you far less. Check them out.

You can order it direct from a US supplier to you from the US. Muzzleloaders are not considered firearms in the US and may be exported. Key thing here is will the supplier ship to Canada. There are some that wont but many that will.

Check out - Track of the Wolf. They ship up here but I think there is a rule about flintlock vrs percussion. Not sure about that.

@gunsaholic, @MC One Shot I don't know about the previous rules but most of the websites don't ship to Canada and a complete kit is considered as an Antique firearm by the importer because it has the barrel in it.

No, a lot of places won't ship to Canada but there are those that will. Just for the heck of it, I just tried an order from Track of The Wolf for a percussion rifle (not a kit) to be shipped to Manitoba. There was nothing indicating that they would not send the order. In fact, it showed a mailing charge of $118.00 and insurance of $30.00. So, going by that, they will ship percussion rifles. I know within the last year I have taken 2 percussion rifles to my brother in the US with no issues at the border.

Thank you, I think Track of the Wolf is the place to get rifle imported easily into the Canada. (Unluckily they don't show up on Google search easily).
If you say it's easy to travel down with Blackpowder across the border. Can I simply drive to Michigan and purchase a blackpowder rifle and drive back down to Toronto with it?

To be clear though, do you have your pal? You will need a pal at the Canadian border.

Ive ordered from Track Of the Wolf and Deer creek products, never had a problem with shipping and the shipping price was surprisingly reasonable.

if at all possible, ship by US Postal service. UPS and Fedex probably will not handle firearms or related items plus they charge an arm and a leg in brokerage fees

Last time I talked to Hillfolk Musket Supplies of Senlac SK, was at a gun show two or three years ago. I asked if they sell kits and they said yes.

I checked MI laws. It appears that there were some recent changes. If it is clearly a ML and cannot be converted to cartridge you can buy it. Take it and declare it at the border and away you go home. No US export restrictions. By federal law they are not considered firearms although State and or Counties may enact their own which may be more restrictive than Code of Federal Regulation.Let us know how you make out....

Track of the Wolf and Pecatonica River Longrifle Supply both have good websites and can ship M/L kits to Canada by USPS without any hassles on either side of the border. Our side will likely charge GST if over about $500. I have been buying M/L parts/kits from both for almost 10 years and there has never been a problem - even with parts to build pistols. No need to get your parcel at the border. Sometimes the shipping costs are high due to oversize parcel length so I try to get 2 guns, barrels or stocks sent at the same time. Weight seems much less of an issue than parcel length.

+1 to Dragonsfire. My experience with Track of the Wolf is the same. Zero problems and also agree the shipping was surprisingly reasonable. Don't know about Deer Creek however.
