Heel engravings?

Umm... Did someone with M14 experience look at it? Bolts often need to be fitted. It would be unusual a GI bolt could not be lapped in and fitted.

Don’t mean to hijack the thread, but while I’m not a guru of the m14, based on my reading too much lapping would be a “bad thing”. The amount of lapping I need I feel might be too much.

Even with the barrel off and the bolt stripped, it no better than that.

with the bolt stripped, measure headspace (barrel in). probably too tight. measure the lug widths, left and right. mark the lug surfaces with a sharpie to see the wear pattern . some one with large headspace would probably swap bolts with you. before lapping , see tonyben on lapping, there is a proper technique. hard to tell in photo, but it looks like the bolt has been re parked. are the lug contact areas shiny or parked?

The rear of the lugs are shiny. I think it’s just Chinese park vs USGI park.

That's not bad. That can definitely be lapped in safely. Its only out a few thou.

That one will end up a nice tight fit.

The only issue is whether you have enough headspace. With a new short chambered barrel, that would not be an issue. With a chromed bore, it may or may not headspace. Chinese chrome barrel headspace is a crapshoot.
