How Many 358 Winchester Fans Have We Got Here??

One of my favourite deer loads;

I wish I could get my hands on some Rem. CL RN and SP,.. great bullets

My most accurate load is 200gr Hornady SP over 47gr of IMR3031,.. 210fed. The 200 RN Hornady,.. 220 FP Speer, with the same recipe,.. and the factory loaded Hornady 200 SP,.. all share the same point of impact with in less than an inch,.. makes it easy if I want to switch from my hand loads to factory loads.

Picked up a mint, unfired tang safety Ruger 77 late last fall. I put a couple rounds through her, but it is not even properly sighted in yet. As others have mentioned, the 35's as a whole are great. I also have a Remington 700 Classic in 350 Rem Mag and the same in a 35 Whelen.

I want to rebarrel my savage 99 from .308 to .358 after looking through this thread! I could rebore I guess, but not cheap either. Unless anyone wants to do a barrel swap? :p

It would be nice if I could get a .358 BLR barrel so I could swap it in and out with the .308 my takedown came with.

If they ever decide to make it an option to get an extra barrel I am sure they would sell

Well the 358 is way under rated by the shooting world but us hunters know the power and reliability of a good 358 cal bullet.
I have owned a Winchester 88 in 358,a Winchester per 64 featherweight in 358,a savage 99 feather weight in 358 and two browning blr in 358,I wish I still had them all,great stoppers of game,if you shot straight it was dead period.Had another kind of 358 but on a contender rifle in 35-444 marlin,also a couple 350 mag Remington 600s .Moose dear bear were afraid,225 gr or 250 gr. hand loads sure did the trick.I wish I still had all of them.Still have a new factory Savage 99 featherweight barrel in 358 looking to put on a good rifle :) for my next bear hunt quink,quink.One of the best there is under 300 yards period.

not fair to compare a lever rifle to a bolt. :p

This is absolutely correct; it's not a fair comparison. As a hunting rifle for use with a medium-range cartridge like the .358, the BLR is worlds ahead of any bolt action rifle. A bolt gun might be slightly more accurate, but not enough to make a difference up to 300 yards or so on the type of game on which this cartridge would be used. Similarly, a bolt gun would probably make it easier to get a perfect clean, crisp trigger pull...but the BLR is handier, more slender, faster to get into action from an empty-chamber condition and faster on follow-up shots for those who worry about that.

The .358Win in a BLR is one of those perfect rifle/cartridge match-ups.

.338Fed? Pffft! :)

The new Hornady "X" (10) Manual, shows the .358 Win @ 2700 fps with 200 grain using Tac or X-terminator... which is what they also show for the .350 Rem Mag with 200 grain.
