What is your black bear rifle for this year?

If Dogleg & I get to trap any bears , I’d really like to dispatch one with my great grandfather’s Rem 870. My first trapped bear dispatched with that would be special . I bet way back in the day he would have never have dreamed that would happen.

I bought a Ruger African 416 ruger that I wanted to use on blacks this spring but it had feeding issues so it's out for warranty repairs.
Really hope it's repaired before moose opens this fall.

I did some horse trading have a 14" SSK Ind T/C Contender barrel in 338JDJ #2 coming parent case is a 444 Marlin necked down reload data shows loaded with 180gr Accubonds it should give me 2450fps - 2500fps muzzle velocity.

Zeroed 2" high at 100 yards its 1 1/2" low at 200 yards and if the ballistic charts are to be believed it will only be 14" low and still be doing 1800fps at 300 yards.

Barrel is sitting in the post office right now worked late so wasn't able to pick it up before they closed Friday won't get it until Tuesday now.

I'm thinking this will be one very cool 29 1/2" OAL hunting combo including any bear.

That it does. You'll find a lot of hunters,especially from the US, get the biggest caliber they can for black bear. I just don't get it. Savage 243 for me with accubonds.

If I went out for bears it would be my Weatherby Vanguard in 7-08. It’s proven reliable for everything I’ve shot it with. And it’s the only rifle I own.
