Winchester Model 42 .410 pump

Ithaca has tried to make a quality American made gun again but no one will pay 1200-1600$ for a pump gun . Heck people won't even pay $1000 for a new wingmaster .Its s Crap is king world but they are all over the junk and even brag about it . Remington express

Agree and I will be 100% honest it took me maybe two years before I finally decided to part with the cash for one and if not a 28ga would never have . I thought I was crazy until it arrived and I took it apart to clean it
Well worth the money if one wants quality. They are actually better than the originals
Cheers

Just curious from those that have owned these guns and shot them a fair amount. Both my dad and especially my grandfather loved the winchesters back in the day which is why I still have some of the better ones like SX1, model 21, 12 etc but he never kept a model 42. Did buy one for sure but traded it in
I remember them saying they had ejection issues so he used an old 1148 I think for his skeet gun which is why I think there is one in my pile

Now I don't own a 42 of my own so never really got the opportunity to shoot them that I can remember
That being said I did buy one actually two ( one to save :) ) of the browning 42 clones when they came out and that thing works flawless
Your feedback please
Cheers

I have one of the new Ithaca Model 37 28 gauge guns and like Mac says, they are a great gun.Well woth the money in my opinion.

As to the Winchester Model 42.At present time I have one.In the past I had another that I sold at a later date.Gun worked perfectly .Used it for two years back in the 1980's in the uplands uplands, but found the .410 wanting for field use and went back to using a 28 gauge gun.:).

Nice mod42 . Hope you enjoy. Congratulations.

Sure would be nice to see the American gunmakers return to manufacturing the quality of guns they did back in their heyday. It’s easy to forget just how good a quality gun they used to produce.
They do, look at the new Ithaca Model 37’s. But most people just complain that they wont pay that much for a pump, and yet spend 2k+ on a plastic Benelli

Yes this is very true isn’t it. Shame really, but I suppose it’s the world we live in.

I’ve been think about this a bit since my earlier comment. Two factors that I believe stop many from buying the $1K wingmaster and Ithaca’s are first, the 7 million or so used 870’s available for much less $. Secondly the difficulty finding a new manufacture Ithaca or 870 doesn’t lend itself to the average guy who pops into his local gun shop for a new bird gun. The second issue probably being a result of lower sales but still doesn’t help sell more.

I own two pre-war M42's; a mod and a full choke. Both are still in nice shape with the mod one excellent condition. Never had any ejection problems. They earned the nickname - The American Sweetheart.
