It's Another "Spend My Money Thread"

We'll find out tomorrow.

I loaded some ppu stuff, lots of variation in the individual bullet weights.

25 low power loads just to mess around with the rifle and get it on paper tomorrow. Going all out next weekend/days off with some load development is the plan.

Nice caliber choice. Got me thinking, one of those could make an excellent project rifle for me. The bolt face could be opened up and chamber reamed to convert it to maybe 325 WSM or 8x68 S to fire 195gr bullets about 300 fps faster.

8x68 down the road was on my mind while buying it.

Not sure if you have to do any other actions work to achieve that though.

I was going to have Corlanes build me another 8x68s. I asked what would be the best calibre/action for the conversion. Matt at Corlanes said a 30/06 CRF is the easiest to work with.

Modifications to the magazine/follower might be needed, not sure. Although 3 338 WM rounds can be stacked in the 7x57 magazine. Another consideration is to get the action properly bedded to prevent the stock from splitting under the heavier recoil.

So with my first load it is shooting around 2 inches at 100 yards.

Some groups of 1.5, one with a couple rounds touching but a flyer going 2 inches high. I blame the loose screw behind the trigger.

For a plinking load I might just leave it at that, and just get back into the groove of shooting with a scope before I start tinkering with loads. The metal deer and moose silhouettes were not safe.

These rifles are capable of fine accuracy. Fully adjustable trigger.

No need to adjust the trigger, it is crisp and light.

The rifle ejects very positively, it has a smooth bolt as well. Not as advertised, very nice gun.

You opted for Weaver type bases. Sometimes there's a degree of misalignment between the receiver and barrel (barrel is canted or misaligned drilled & tapped holes for the bases, or both). Leupold FN Mauser 2 piece bases includes a windage-adjustable rear base which makes it possible to correct for lateral misalignment rather than using the scope windage adjustment (and shimming the base for correcting elevation misalignment if present). Or Burris inserts can be used to correct misalignment.

With some scopes if adjustments are skewed too far from travel mid range POI will be erratic. Using Leupold FN Mauser 2 piece bases on my Zastava rifles.
