What the general consensus on these rifles. Im looking to buy my son his first deer rifle and want something that has some quality to it and is within the working mans budget. Im looking at the Kimber hunter, Tikka T3X and Sako A7.

Cheers!!

They're really light. Maybe too light for a first deer rifle, not everyone shoots a lightweight rifle well. From what I understand, the stock is different from the more expensive Kimbers but the rifle is basically the same.

Were you looking at the regular t3x or a t3x lite?

My kimber Hunter 280AI kicks like a 243.
It’s super light and fast pointing and the stock just fits me I guess
I shoot 160ABs behind a stiff load of IMR7828

I have had several Tikka also shoot great but recoil different

I would grab the kimber. Feels a lot better then a factory tikka. One thing to remember tikka's used to be $450 and nothing really has changed on them but they are $1000+ now.

I'm a big tikka fan, but that hunter series is very nice. The three position safety is a better system for youngsters in my opinion. You can have the rifle is unloaded / loaded, unlike the two position on the tikka.

I handled one but I have never shot one. They seem like nice rifles, very light.

If I understand correctly it's a standard 84m action with the magazine and plastic stock as differences, seems like a good deal.

I like my tikka, and the other tikka's I've owned have performed well. I don't know about the t3x but it seems like they addressed a lot of complaints about that t3 that I never really suffered from.

They are the best value in a rifle nice trigger great action nice stock configuration excellent accuracy
I killed a nice bull
With a long poke from one last season fine rifle

I've never shot a Kimber Hunter yet but I'll vote Tikka. The T3x Compact in 243, 7/08, or 308 would be a fine youth rifle with proper ammo

Ive been wanting to try something different but its hard not go with Tikka. Ive got one in a .204 and one in 300 wsm. Both have have been used hard and taken alot of game with, never an issue. My local dealer has a nice compact .243 I may end up getting but the kimbers have a nice look to them.

I briefly owned a Kimber Hunter in .308 and it was an excellent rifle. Accuracy, build, quality, ergos were all very good. However, there were issues with the mags which have now been corrected. (not enough relief inside which caused binding. A quick 10 minute dremel job fixed it.). I sold it.
I would suggest you also consider the new Mauser M18. I bought one in .308 and it is exceptionally accurate. Personally I feel the Mauser trumps the Kimber and the Tikkas I've owned and is in your price range. All your choices are solid. Let your son handle them all if possible. Ultimately it comes down to fit.

I seen those Mausers, they look great.
