I briefly owned a Kimber Hunter in .308 and it was an excellent rifle. Accuracy, build, quality, ergos were all very good. However, there were issues with the mags which have now been corrected. (not enough relief inside which caused binding. A quick 10 minute dremel job fixed it.). I sold it.
I would suggest you also consider the new Mauser M18. I bought one in .308 and it is exceptionally accurate. Personally I feel the Mauser trumps the Kimber and the Tikkas I've owned and is in your price range. All your choices are solid. Let your son handle them all if possible. Ultimately it comes down to fit.
