Just seat the bullet listen for the powder crunch and give a good crimp so the bullet doesnt push back out. A long drop tube helps get more in a case somehow. Not sure how but it does. I have compressed charges in my 458wm

im using the RNSP at the moment mate, this weekend i took 3 shots on deer, two over 250 an one at 180m, i conected at the 180m shot an drew blood, made a good dash in the bush an i thought it fell, yet i never found her.. not sure if just poor placement yet, i am out in the morning to try catch up with a Stag,, ill take a bit more caution with the shot/s and try nail one. an find a bullet.
i have 30 or so of the RNSP left, then i have the 30x PPSN to use..... pending outcome of the RNSP, they may all be used for close range under 200m shots and typically in that "bush stalkng" scenerio.
i know the loads are pretty good, not MOA but wouldnt be far off most times out of ten, perhaps a bit endevourous on the longer shots for now, wanting to use 232 for all round work once all 250s are gone.

225gr serria @ 2450, (mangospeed) with 50g Varget, 4 shots apox inch average, 49gr gave 2400fps.
200gr Hornardy roundnose with the same 50gr, but hitting 3-4" low, so never bothered to check speed.
Just loaded up sum 200gr ftx with 50 varget, has anyone tried these on game,

I shot both the FTX and RN with 50.0 Varget and they were equally accurate out of my 20" M77 and 20" BLR... but I settled on 51.0 W748 as a slightly more consistently accurate load. I shot several whitetails with the Varget and 748 loads with equally good (and predictably) results. Pass through lung shots with minimal to moderate damage, nothing like the jello produced by a .270 130 grain or .300 150 grain. I am now shooting the 200 Rem Core-Lokt 200 SP out of the BLR and (like a bonehead) sold the M77... but am looking to replace it.

Second - the answer to the question...About 12% more frontal area
Third - ask yourself why you want a larger caliber in a small case? Usually it is for heavier bullets with greater frontal area. 358 bullets are bigger than 338.
Fourth - the tradeoff: 338 Federal is currently chambered in more rifles and there is more factory ammo available.
Consider this comparison at 300yds:
my 7-08 with a high bc 150gr bullet has 1738ftlbs energy drops 8"(200yd zero) and drifts 6"(10mph wind) 16 ft lbs of recoil
a 358 Win with a 225gr partition has 1769ftlbs energy drops 11"(200yd zero) and drifts 9"(10mph wind) 26 ft lbs of recoil
So why do I shoot a 35cal? The answer is simple...Bigger bullets.
To me it's quite clear...If you are going to shoot factory ammo go with the 338 Federal, if you handload get the 358 Win
They say variety is the spice of life...buy a nice light Kimber in 338Fed and a BLR in 358 and voila...problem solved
