I put a shockwave grip on my 14" TacOrd 870. Ran it in 3 variations with some slugs and here is what I have so far. Bear in mind the gun has Vang Comp porting, so not a factory 870 barrel and recoil is different.
1) Bare Shockwave grip: Shoots well, feels like it might slip out of my hand though when handling and loading, a little slippery when shooting and my hand moved around a bit between shots.
2) "Camo" self adhesive tape you get at Cabelas: Good grip, same recoil feeling as the bare grip, no hand slippage.
3) Lizard Skins baseball bat grip tape (same as the bicycle stuff I run on my road bike): Nice and grippy, no slippage, and somewhat more comfortable to shoot the slugs, especially after a few slugs. My pick for the win, but we'll see how it holds up with time.
My preference is the Lizard Skins:
