I can't stop thinking about bacon.

Anyone think they will get deemed pest or nuisance animals so we can freely shoot them when safe to do so?

In BC they are under schedule C wildlife in the hunting regs, while you need a hunting license to hunt them on crown land there is no closed season or bag limits for feral pigs nor are you required to remove edible portions of the animal. There’s just not much feral pig activity in BC from what I gather, anyone that does know where to hunt them isn’t about to spill the beans...

Yellowhead County in Alberta recently banned keeping wild boar with the exception of one farmer that was grandfathered in after exceeding Provincial regulations for proper fencing etc. This operation will be closely monitored with population reporting. The province appears to be waiting for individual municipal districts to ban them one at a time for some odd reason? They should simply be banned completely by the Province with shoot on sight orders.

Also the Province has announced a two year continuation of the $50 ear bounty for wild boar. This program is administered and run by County Ag departments which then submit forms for payment at the end of the year to the province.

Wild boar in Alberta promises to be an ecological and agricultural wreck of monumental proportions.
 
Has anyone eaten them, I can only imagine they would taste great, fun to hunt fun to eat! Is there an issue with eating wild boar, ( disease etc.)?
 
Here in Ontario, the MNR had run radio ads telling people to shoot them on sight, and asked to report them. But from everything I've seen down South, I really don't think you can control them by hunting (at least not conventional hunting). They manage to elude dogs, traps, baits, poison, you name it. I think the only moderately effective control is night hunting, which I really can't see any provincial government allowing.

Unless I'm mistaken, they can't even control them with choppers, vehicle, full-auto weapons and nvg/thermals. No way the average Canadian fudd double barrel shotgun from dawn to dusk is gonna do anything :-/
