BC leh results are out

So you'd rather not even have a chance at those hunts? Serious question. I see a few people saying things like they're not going to put in for leh anymore, but at $6 a try its cheaper than a lotto ticket and the odds are (literally) a million times better...

No, not really man. I have done fairly well in the draws over the years I guess..... maybe a 15% success rate overall (total wild guess). I've put the time in over the years to find my favorite deer spots and fill my 3 tags almost every year without fail so no need for doe draws really. Moose, I have found my spot that should serve me well untill I'm no longer able to hunt but the regular seasons are earlier than most folks are set up to hunt. I'm transitioning to spend a majority of my season Elk hunting and there's lot's of opportunity for me here in BC in the open seasons for the class of animal I'm after.

so ya, I'm done with the LEH system. I'm one of the folks that feel tag allocation is a deeply flawed process and change is needed. BC hunting needs to be put back in the hands of Resident Hunters , but that is not what's happening.
anyhow, more tags for everyone else ...... odds just improved by 2 LOL

Finally after 5 years for me and 8 for my hunt buddy we got a DRAW!!! Zone 7-07 only problem I have no knowledge of the area.

good a time as any for a road trip..... go do some scouting a couple times over summer. Lot's of time , could be well worth it.

Lol! I didn't write down my password and could not answer the recovery questions, by the time they replied to my inquiry, was way too late to do me any good!

All I really wanted to put in for was a mulie doe tag, almost a gimme in my zone, and while they are not trained to come at the rattle of grain inna bucket, they are pretty used to seeing us around, too.

Meh. Just means I gotta try for one of the white tails around here instead.

Kinda liked the Priority system that Alberta used to have, at least you could save up over time and use the saved points when and where it suited you best.

Fair enough. Does anyone have a breakdown of how tags are distributed between guides and resident hunters? I hear this sort of sentiment all the time, but I don't know what the numbers actually look like.

The guides get like 40 god damned percent or something disgusting like that.

Nothing for LEH, oh well just means I can focus on getting more than one deer this coming season.

Good luck everyone!

Providing they haven’t changed the regs like they were proposing. Anyone heard if they went ahead with this 1 deer per person idea or if the regs will stay generally the same?

Have not heard.

However, the proposed changes for mule deer were changes to regional bag limits, from what I recall. Provincially, this would not work out to "1 (mule) deer per person".

If I'm not mistaken the suggested change was 1 mule deer buck from interior regions combined. 3,4,5 and 8 I think it was. 6 and /or 7 might have been on the list too I can't remember.

That does seem high... I'd be interested in seeing how much that brings into the economy. Would guiding be sustainable without LEH draws(have to hunt open season like the rest of us)? Or do some peoples livelihoods and careers depend on them?

Holy crap they get a lot of goats. Any speculation as to why?

Looks like Andrew Weaver put forth a bill to change this in 2015 ("A Bill to Reduce Preferential Treatment of Non-Resident Hunters" ). Now that he's part of the ruling party we should get vocal about this again.

Was curious myself, so here it is.View attachment 185611

I wish the government subsidized my income, every one of those tags allocated to a guide is a guaranteed paycheck regardless of their client harvesting an animal, while the rest of us have to work for a living to pay the bills these guys just sit back and get a handout and a free ride

Well, I drew a muley doe in region 6, so not a dry run.
Had a 7-20a elk last year, but filled the tag early on a bull, so
did not use the LEH. I have enjoyed reasonable success on the
draws. Almost always draw something. Dave.

Can't really blame the guides though. They're just doing what's best for them. It's the provincial liberals that gave them all these tags wasn't it?

Anyone know what allocation was like 20 years ago during the last ndp govt?

Had a quick read through the synopsis to see how things have changed in my old area (west kootenays). As far as general seasons go, previously draw areas for elk are open, as well as antlered moose. General season now for Turkey, some areas have general goat tags, and antlerless deer is expanded as well. If this was the way it was in 96 before I moved, I would have been hard pressed to think of something to apply for. Other than grizz of course, you guys got hosed on that one.

"one mule deer buck" - if this is what it said, then there is still room for an LEH antlerless.

"interior regions combined" - I do not recall the word "combined" in the proposed changes - but I could be mistaken as well.

The new regs will be out soon, so there won't be any doubt. :)

I believe it was basically no zone jumping. You could only take 1 mule deer buck, period. Will see shortly as you say.

I remember that it did not apply to regions 1 and 2. Beyond that I'm fuzzy on exact details, but I'm pretty sure it was 1 buck so yes as you say you could still get an doe if drawn.

finding loads of sign , both track and droppings from moose and deer and other critters all through the burns north of loon lake (5-1 and 3-30). A good sign that maybe the mulie restrictions will be short lived. It burned like a sum##### through there , there forest floor is powdery ash but the animal sign since the fire is unmistakeable.... a very good sign.
I think the restriction was 1 mulie buck from 3,4,5 and 8 if I remember right. LEH does would not be included in that, just a restriction on bucks. Shoot one in any of those regions and yer done for all of those regions. Can still fill the provincial 3 buck limit in other regions.
