250 Savage aka 250/3000

What Kamlooky is talking about is the Remington 700 Classic made in 1984. Be patient you may find one. Have a cousin who has a Savage Weather warrior, I think. He bought it for the caliber only. Wants my Classic badly. The 257 Roberts Classic made in 1982 is a long action but also a great rifle.

makes me wonder about setting back and recutting a 257 roberts rifle if you really want one that bad, then your choices really open up

I'd just buy a short action 700 and have a bbl installed chambered for 250Savage. If one could find an older walnut 700 Mountain Rifle, that would be perfect for a rebarrel as would a Model Seven

Once upon a time, Weatherby included a version of the MK-V rifle with a 6 lug action called the Whitetail Deluxe in their annual catalog, perhaps 1993 or '94; it was chambered in .250 Savage, and IMHO was one of the nicest looking rifles ever produced by that firm. According to Ed Weatherby, the rifle never went into production.

Hello. Thanks for your PM. Sorry for the delay in responding. Not many people know about the Whitetail Deluxe rifle primarily because we never went into production. To my knowledge only one was produced and we never did offer this model for sale. As you know it was to be in the .250 Savage built on the 6 lug Mark V. The concept for this rifle was right before we moved our production from Japan to the U.S. and because of the forth coming move we postponed the Whitetail introduction. Unfortunately it never made it back to production. It may be something we consider for the future as it is one sweet gun in the smaller action. Thanks for your interest and your patience for a response.

I like the Remington M-7. Stocked in Kevlar or fiberglass, a M-7 with a 20" #2 contour Ron Smith barrel in .250 Savage, topped with a 1.5-5X Leupold would be a useful little outfit, but if I went that route mine would be a .243.

Yes, that is a pm Ed Weatherby sent me some time ago. I had a catalogue with a picture of the rifle but could never find one so I wrote to him. Was pleasantly surprised when he responded.

I like SuperCub's thinking. A 250 in a Model 7 would be sweet. In a 20" s/s barrel would be a hell of rifle. Big step up from a Weather Warrior.

I don't own any Remington's so a 700 might be a good idea to round out my collection. Pretty sure it's just me, but the thought of cannibalizing a 257 Roberts to make a 250 Savage sort of makes me cringe.
Another Winchester would always be welcome, as would another Ruger. So I guess I will just keep looking until I get frustrated enough to buy a custom barrel.

I have a Savage Wheather Warrior in the 250. Very accurate. I do not know why it has never come out in a scaled down version for women or kids. Very little recoil making it pleasant to shoot.

Between my wife and I, we own 2, 250 Savages (Lipsey's Ruger No.1 and Lipsey's Ruger M77 RSI), and I also have a Remington 700 CDL LH rebarrelled to 250AI. These rifles shoot great and are a lot of fun! I also just got a Lipsey's Ruger No.1 RSI in 257 Roberts (to have a full set of Lipsey's Ruger RSI's; aslo have a 10/22 RSI; love thos full length stocks!)

Prophet River has a beautiful Cooper Custom in 250 Savage on consignment that I have been drooloing over; but at over $3k, it is a little pricey for another right handed rifle in this caliber.

Winchester has also made the Model 70 in 250 Savage, but you do not see these very often.

I prefer the 250 over the 243, as I like the larger frontal area. But this is just my personal preference. Also, everyone else has a 243, and I like having something a little bit different then everybody else!
