How can this rifle be non-restricted if it is a bullpup? Bullpup's are illegal right?

For the ten millionth time; bullpups are NOT illegal, but for some reason the firearms community seems keen on self limitation and censorship because I frequently hear uneducated shooters telling other shooters (particularily the new and impressionable) that bullpups are prohibited.

The ONLY bullpup item that is prohibited is an aftermarket conversion stock for an previously non bullpup rifle, OR a rifle that can fire when out of its bullpup stock. That is to say, any purpose built bullpup where the receiver is part of the stock and the gun will not function disassembled, is LEGAL. Cheers and spread the correct news. :)

Welcome to CGN, new guy.
Please read the Newbie FAQ Section. The link is in my Signature line, and the answer to your question, and many, more are there.

It does go back to the early 20th century and lessons learnt from the boer wars and the Thorneycroft conversions of the Lee Enfield rifles. Not much help But almost dates it!

Interesting stuff Tim, any chance you could link me to a picture of the Thorneycroft? I googled, found info but no images, just trying to imagine this beast.

I did exactly the same thing and couldn't find anything other than some references to Thorneycroft on LeeEnfield collectors' site.

The Thorneycroft Carbine as it was called I believe appears in Skennertons "The Lee Enfield Story" :
If I can work out how to post pics again since all forums seem to have changed, especially this one I'll post a pic!
In the mean time try this:
