do you like a long blade or a short blade?

I know you would likely use different blades on small game like rabbit, grouse and such, so I'm mostly talking about what you're go-to blades are for deer, elk, moose, bear; the bigger stuff.

I've got a Buck Vantage drop point made out of S30V steel that I like to use.

I have a Normark hunting knife 6in. It keeps a very sharp edge and i do all our gutting when we have success Whitetail hunting. Keep it clean, and watch your fingers!

I use a Buck alpha folder drop point with a 154cm steel blade. It holds a good edge and sharpens without too much work. My wife use and old Schrade Sharp finger which I can get very sharp but the edge has to be touched up after 1 deer.

Plastic extao knife that uses the larger size blade. Always sharp, light, if I don’t get around to cleaning it I can toss it, and get a new one.

I have a small Damascus fixed blade I got from Corwin Arms for cheap, it passed the daily use test and for over a year before I took it hunting. It’s impressed me for a $40 knife actually, I also use my Mora. Once I get home I have a deboning and another knife I kept from an old kitchen knife set we replaced a year or two ago, I prefer a shorter blade when in the field and 6-8” blade once I’m skinning and quartering. I’ve tried the havalon with the scalpel blades and they work well, I just know I’d slice myself open with it and I have no problem keeping a knife sharp with a steel while in the field or shop so th disposable blade knives are a waste of money for me.

Most any drop point will do the entire job.

Easily break down and disjoint head, hinds, shoulders, neck, and ribs on any game, including the biggest moose, caribou, bear and bison.

I've gone through a few knives, but always come back to the first one that I bought specifically for hunting: an AG Russell Deerhunter in D2 steel

I've used it for a moose, two bears, and countless fish. It's by far my favourite knife as its thin 4" blade is large and durable enough, but without the bulk and heft of a thick blade, cleans up easily, and takes a keen edge that holds up well in the field. When I use it for gutting sal####er fish, I do have to be careful to get it rinsed off and re-oiled the same day; otherwise, it will rust.

Grohmann D.H. Russell belt knife#1. I also have a Gerber Gator as a backup. All I need. Anything bigger just gets in the way... I field dress quick and clean. For deer I don't split the pelvis or the brisket, no need.

Kershaw Deer Hunter, Buck El Cajon, Western and PakLite Field Master Knives.
My first knife was the Russell large belt knife and I got attached to using a knives with a thong.
