I can't wait for this to come out!

You can find some good info in this ARFCOM thread on the STG 556 but the "current" word is that the first 500 will start shipping early July.

Their can't even be an RCMP ruling until the rifles ship! You think the RCMP are just going to make a random blind decision without a rifle in their hands.....errrr..... nevermind.

I wonder what they are doing with the HK G11 they had?

i hate the color of the mag. does it take AUG mags?

The mag isn't "colored", but is simiply translucent polymer so that you can manage your ammo supply better.

No idea if it takes the same mag as the AUG, but they do look very similiar.

Yah all five shots of it in Canada.

Next question is...will it take AR pistol mags? :D

there's no way they won't prohib it... it's almost identical in appearance to a steyr aug

I am pretty tired of seeing one liner like it's prohib, blah blah blah.

Seriously, can people become more analytical before they make a statement?

No wonder NO ONE could figure out the 10 round mag thing for almost 17 years, because people don't read comprehensively and apply analytical skill!!!

RCMP has been professional and making some very sound decisions lately. give them credit for doing a professional job. The stg 556 is clearly not a variant of Steyr AUG. The difference in dimension, material used and the lack of interchangability of parts betewen the two are physical evidence. It was designed and manufactured from the ground up as a sporting rifle for the civilian market- versus the STeyr Aug is a civilian version of a military rifle. They clearly have different ancestry. While the two share similar silhouette, it is not a strong evidence of linkage. Pretty much all rifles have stocks, pistol grip and barrels.......and that the number of operating systems is limited too. Every system is a derivative of several piston and gas designs. Just because Stg556 uses a similar gas system to the Steyr AUG doens't mean Stg556 is a variant of AUG. Precedences such as AR180B, SWiss arms rifles, TP9, etc indicate that operating system are irrelevant and NOT a factor in classification Simply, every system out there is a derivative of one another - firearms technology is very limited that makes this useless as a criteria

I am very sure the professionals could clearly see these points in 5 seconds.
